i re-discovered the joys GPL this evening, thanks to the fantastic thundercars mod. i still can't drive the things tho, and had various rolls and spins ending in burning wreckage
and i just ordered me a new rig, £870 all in and it's pretty sweet. Far better than anything pre-made by Dell or the likes, and waaaay cheaper! |

Toca Race Driver 2 - Vodafone Mercedes - Bernerd Shnieder - Hockenhiemring
I was just coming out of the parabolica into the sharp hairpin, I completely mist my braking point and slamed into a braking Audi, Both of my front wheels came right off and my car went end - over - end, the Engine was virtualy in the cockpit! |

Plenty of crashes occur in Nascar 06 TTC primarily because when the yellows come out all the computer cars suddenly come to an instant dead stop whilst you keep going at racing speed, result, crash bang whollop etc - not good

in toca rd2 at loch rannoach(there's no way thats spelt right) driving a bowler i clipped a bank on my inside early on in the lap and it just threw the thing into a huge roll,i must have done it a good few times now with the same result every time, about 8 to 10 rolls.
the kerbs at the last schicane at oran park are fun.if you catch your rear wheel on them the front digs in and you go into a massive end over end flip. |

F1 Championship Season 2000 - EA Sports
Interlagos, Jenson in the Williams - maunfacturered a "suspension failure", veered left at high speed into the wall - shot off into the air in a number of rolls, before calming it back down - and driving back to the pits with a great amount of wobbly wheels. |

I caused a bit of a pile-up in a V8 Supercar race I did at Adelaide. I lost control slightly on the kink on the long straight, and quite a few cars ploughed into me. Very interesting it was.

I had what should have been a huge crash at Eau Rouge on F1 05 yesterday. Pity that I had slowed to about 50mph by the time I reached the wall and the damage on the game is useless as well...

yeah it was 1999 when both BAR cars had massive crashes at Eau Rouge in practice.
A new team didnt know how to set up the cars properly ? Or did JV choose the setup based on GP2 again like he did in 1996 ? |

Apparently they had decided to both take Eau Rouge flat-out, something you couldn't do in 1999. Now you can (or would if there was a race there
They were pretty impressive crashes. |

Oh yeah, those two crashes stil stick in my mind and i remember them clearly, just because of the speed and total destruction of the cars. That was really the last time Eau Rouge was a challenge to drivers, now it's just plant the throttle and guide it up. What a shame.
In fact, i think i have it on video somewhere... I'm tempted to dig it out and have a watch. |

I'm sure you'd find it on the net somewhere.
I had another interesting crash on GT4 this morning, on the Autumn Ring. I was running 4th after a poor start and as I went round one of the blind corners, the three cars in front of me all went straight off into the gravel, and I couldn't stop my car from crashing into them all! Unfortunately I forgot to save the race, so I can't get any screenshots. Never mind. |

TOCA Race Driver 3
I was using the BMW Williams F1 cars at Shanghai. We were heading down the long straight leading into the final hairpin, I go to brake, the car behind me apparently didn't see me braking, launches over the back of my car, flies through the air, bounces of the TOP of a car in front of me, flies through the air some more, and finally lands in the gravel trap at the outside of the corner. If I can find some way to get either images, or video, of it off my PS2 and onto the computer, I will show it to you. |

Formula 1 2004 - Christiano Da Matta - Interlagos
It was'nt the biggest crash but it was the realism of the crash that was big. Remember that crash at interlagos in 2003 with Alonso, that crash actualy put me off crashes and made me relise the real dangers of the sport, I remember in the autosport it said on the cover Kimi Wins it, Schui bins it and Alonso comes 3rd.... In an ambulence. Not good. Anyways i was coming round the last corner clipped the grass then went across the track and hit the start of the pit wall then spun with debris and smoke everywhere. |

Formula1 2004 - David Coulthard - Interlagos
I qualified last and was coming out of turn 3, I get pushed wide by Baumgartner and make big contact with the armco that veres into the track at an angle. I went all sideways, there was tiresmoke everywhere, there was a mclaren frontwing and wheel out on the middle of the track, these where hit by heidfeld who lost control and slamed into the side of me. |

GPL yesterday.
Driving the Ferrari 312 I had one of my unusally good starts and was laying in 5th place, wheel to wheel with Denny Hulme (6th) going into Eau Rouge (seems to crop up rather often this section) anyways, I'm concentrating on my line but unbeknown top me he's put his right front wheel between my left wheels as we reach the crest at the top of Eau Rouge. With no room between him and the right hand kerb for me to move over a little our wheels well and truely get tangled up. His right front, clips my left side bodywork and get's me slightly skewed, then I get flipped, several times, he then hits me again as I land and so we simultainiously flip, over the grass, both finally landing somewhere in amongst the spectators, both inverted. Good thing it was only a game, fatalities would have been guranteed. |

The only problem with many of the F1 games is that the realism of the damage is poor. I crashed into a wall at Spa at 200mph on f1 05 just to see what damage would be done, and all that happened was the front wing became loosened.

Have to agree with you there, I've found that too. Although Taco Race Driver 3 had very good crash damage realism.
Have to say I love GPL though, mainly because of my love of "proper" Grand Prix racing. The days when MEN drove RACING cars and not just sat in a games machine on wheels. Evevryone seems to like rFactor though, I've been trying to get a copy but can't find one. I've tried amazon amd ebay, with no luck. |

TRD2 has alright damage, so there is the potential to have 'good' accidents. The thing I find though is that when you try and cause a crash, they are never as good as when you don't mean to.
