Totally agree. He's done all the preparation, now is the time to profit from it. And he's not daft.

The only thing you wonder, since Carlin will be running 4 cars, is who they will put in the other two. Stuart Hall in one, possibly, but there could be a joker in the pack...

i hope so. there's a couple of random sources of curiosity so far, but no-one to make you think "ooh, can't wait to see what happens there".
if numbers are going to increase this year, it'd be nice to see people other than billy no-wins in the cars (not that there aren't a few of those already, but..)

That's a good selection of circuits she's made. As a guest driver she will be racing in the Invitation Class, though.

Unless she's entered the full championship but is just picking and choosing her races. As long as she abides by testing regs she'd be eligible for Championship Class.

Unfortunately she isn't very good. She trailed around at back in Euro F3 races at Brands last year. If Keiko Ihara comes back it'd be a good 'battle'!!

You're right, of course, but I had a look at her website and it seems like she's cherry-picking races from various series. She would have been slow last year because I think she was using one of the old Opel engines.

In other news, the ranks of the National Class for this season continue to swell, with Master Motorsport and Michael Meadows moving up from FBMW. He was 5th overall in last year's UK Championship.

Saw her at Brands earlier this year. There is no way the Opel was loosing her that much time, even if it was an old spec one! Plus Elckman won that weekend, using an Opel!

I think we've just found Keiko's replacement!

But how much of Elkmann's win was down to the fact that he was given pole on account of the revesed grid system, as opposed to the performance of his car? That said, Elkmann 8th place the day before was still significantly better than any of Julia Kuhn's results at Brands.

Does that just leave T Sport, ADR and, presumably Performance, running NBEs in Class A?

Probably so, unless some new teams emerge, but there could be 10 or 12 National Class cars with control NBE engines.

I don't think it's good at all for FIA-spec F3 to become 'Formula Mercedes'.

You can rule out Hagermark at Performance Racing as he will be racing Formula Renault 2.0 NEC in 2007. He did have a test day with Performance but that was a prize for winning the Rickard Rydell Special Award at the Swedish Motorsport gala.

So much for the much discussed NBE being able to fight Mercedes theory huh?

It is not Formula Mercedes, any company could outspend them in theory. But then again it would take someone more vain than Mr Haug to conceive the board about the necessity of such a program. Add F3 to the list of championships destroyed by Mr Haug.

Destroyed in the sense of multi formula. I mean now (or soon enough anyway) it will be just Dallara Mercedes all over the world, right? At least in the past different countries had different engine tuners dominating.

Destroyed in the actual term would have been if any other company had put a fight to Mercedes, then the engine war would drive prices mad.

I'd agree with that. When Mercedes came to the UK last year, that triggered off a price escalation, because NBE had to respond. In fact, they managed very well and it was really only in Macau that they looked to be at a disadvantage, for reasons that have since been hotly debated. But unfortunately the eyes of the world are on Macau.

In the past different engine manufacturers have dominated F3. Toyota, Volkswagen, Opel Spiess, Mugen-Honda etc. You could argue that this is nothing different, that it's simply Mercedes' turn.

However, Mercedes are viewed within the F3 world very differently from those other suppliers I have mentioned. Previously there was not much doubt that it was a level playing field. Let's just say that that that's not how people view Mercedes.
