With Sebring coming up soon, I thought this would be of interest. Back in 1965 my brother and I went to the New York Auto Show and they had this newsreel playing in one of the side rooms showing the 1965 Sebring 12 hours. It showed Jim Hall's Chaparral basically kicking the crap out of the best Ferrari and Ford had to offer. The film is split into 5 parts so here are the links:

The engine sounds are recorded pretty well and the Chaparral sounds great. In 1965 Hall had two real shots at the international competition. He also kicked their butts at the 500 miler at Bridgehampton, Long Island that year. The Bridgehampton race was part of the World Sportscar Championship that year. My brother actually took me to see that one live before he headed into the Army the next year. Anyway, as a bonus, here is some footage of the 500 miler that I found on Youtube.

Ya know, every now and then, I put on the Le Mans, McQueen film, with the speakers turned right up, just to listen to those glorious sounds of the 917's in the early stages of the race. It drives the cook nuts. Some people just don't get it.

is it me or do all lmp cars sound boring these days!!! i remember a few years back when we had the 333sp with the v12, the lola with a v10, judd v8 and the riley and cadilac v8, now weve got diesels that sound like nothing and the rest of the cars bar the aston that sound exactly the same..and incredibly boring!!

I fear it will only get worse over the next few years for the LMP1 engines! The GTs actually sound better with the whining Ferraris, bellowing Porsches and rumbling Corvettes not to mention the screaming Lambos.

yeh thats whats attracted me to gt1 this year, the one thing ive always loved about sportscar racing is its variety...if that is lost, to me sportscar racing is pointless

after watching that I already can't wait for petit 2011,watching that many cars go around that small of a track is fantastic! Plus that was shot from near my campsite so it was extra nice to see.

I absolutely loved the Ford GT's this year in FIA GT1 as well as some of Westbrook's drives, and not to mention the Interlagos circuit.
