The timing data of the first session is available at http://fiawec.alkamelsystems.com/
The Toyota was faster in every sector, but it gained the most in sector 2 (which has a lot of slow corners). |

I know it's early and all but I think Audi's going to have a very busy winter...

Live timing is pretty craptastic at the moment

1:47.4 for Treluyer so far; not bad. Qualifying should be pretty exciting.

Still having trouble getting very excited about the WEC field and really only 3 cars mattering. Don't get me wrong I'm listening to practice and will follow along all weekend but it doesn't get me all that excited. Need it to grow a bit particularly at the sharp end before I say "Wow, Worlds Sportscar Championship is really back."

It is back, there's just not many factory participants. That should change soon though. But I like Toyota, so I'm partial.

Speaking of Toyota, 26 laps since the start of P2, they're still yet to pit.

Not much time lost there. Fixed whatever the problem was.

I thought they might have done this... Toyota ran the car empty- that's why they had the 'issue'.

Back on topic: Audi seems like they will be closer to the pace here than they were on Brazil. It is shaping up to be a good one among those three. Edit: My comment doesn't need its own thred, it can just be added to the main WEC thread if you'd like. Last edited by pach233; 27 Sep 2012 at 19:08. |

We'll see in qualifying. Toyota didn't go for a hot lap, they ran (almost) 27 laps and limped to the pits on no fuel. It looks to be really good between Rebellion and the HPD's. Aston Martin is really strong here as well in GTE.

I didn't see P2, but I am glad to hear that the Aston is going well, let's just hope they convert good pace into a win!

Will be interesting to see if Audi can keep the pace up for a whole race run in Bahrain--that was the problem in Brazil with tire drop-off in the second stint of a run. They were fast for a flyer, but overall performance on a full race run was lacking. Remains to be seen if Bahrain will suit them better than Brazil did.

Looked like Toyota were matching them on times with that full fuel load. Not sure what fuel levels Audi were running in P2.

Big problem for Toyota now is that Audi do now know exactly what Toyota can do on fuel, which is a 26-27 lap stint. I don't know what Audi were doing as far as range. Problem that Audi had at Silverstone and especially Brazil was being able to consistently keep up with Toyota on lap times over a full race run. Audi got away with that at Silverstone because of TMG playing a conservative pit strategy, but Brazil showed them that if they want to exploit any range advantage, they need to be for sure in the ballpark at least of what Toyota can run, if not right on top of them.

It's not a problem. Maybe Toyota can go more than 28 laps, they may not have even filled the car all the way. That's why you can't read into anything from practice. Brazil was the same way. Everyone thought they'd only go such and such laps, until they did 33 laps in the race. Even if you know how far they can go, it doesn't make much of a difference. You still have to have the pace and economy to match what the other team is capable of.
