Judging from what's happening to the Atlantics, I believe codename may be right!

Ronnie Bremer

I think I can spot a Danish flag on this HVM/CTE car:
http://www.hvmracing.com/noticias.php?op=ver&idn=594

Not a big surprise, but nice to know that it seems sure he'll be back for 2006

They did get his name on a contract, however there is probably a lot of provisions in it.
ie. how much sponsorship he can bring etc...etc....

With HVM having new investment from Cedric, there was always a good chance that Ronnie would return, much as I was cynical about it at the time things have changed. He did well as a rookie and richly deserves a full season with the team.

I don't know if this thread is supposed to deal with just driver/team combinations, but I didn't want to open a new thread and get people's hopes up......but.....

Autoracingone.com (yeah...I know, I know) are reporting as "strong" that Road America will be returning to the Champcar calender in September 2006...

Oh please...please....PLEASE let it be so!

A further update indicates that the Briscoe/Champ Car thing is far from being done.

His relationship with Ganassi is not totally over, while Champ Car is still a possibility.

He also has some options outside of America - some of which are appealing, some of which are less so.

In other words, it is all very much still in the air. It is not impossible that he may end up at Ganassi, Champ Car or somewhere else in 2006.

Dan Wheldon signing for Ganassi alongside Dixon might reduce Briscoe's chances of staying on with the team, as I don't expect them to run 3 cars again, expect perhaps for the road courses.

What's the standard like in Japanese GTs? Isn't it quite a big risk for him considering a lack of familiarity with that whole scene? Wouldn't a bad season there ruin his chances of having connections wiht Toyota beyond that, and perhaps wreck his career altogether?

I can't imagine that Japanese GT is where Briscoe imagined himself landing. CC has to be his best option left. If he's trying out for Jimmy's old PKV seat that would appear to be a pretty decent option. (KK must pay fairly well and you don't have to worry about team finances) If I were PKV I'd take him over Dalziel or a number of other young drivers.

The JGTC has got to be an absolute career killer if Briscoe still has ambitions of Formula 1. I don't believe anyone decent has successfully advanced their career towards Formula 1 in either the JGTC or Formula Nippon since the days of Ralf Schumacher and Jacques Villeneuve.

What happened to Courteney over there? He certainly isn't on the F1 radar anymore.

Regardless, according to Robin Miller's Dan Wheldon article, Briscoe will be testing for PKV this winter. I expect that he will replace Da Matta.

The theory is that Toyota has suggested Ryan heads to Japan to head up their SGTC and Formula Nippon efforts - remember Nippon will be an all new championship next year.

This is Ryan's least favoured option, however his deal with TMC may hinge on this as it is believed they won't look too favourably on him having a Ford logo on his overalls.

The PKV thing is a long way short of what a lot of media pundits suggest - contrary to popular belief, it is not almost done. Merely initial contact has been made with a view to possibly conducting a test in the winter.

There is also a possibility of a return to Europe.

As I said above, his 2006 plans are totally up in the air at this point.

I don't think there is any championship that would suit Briscoe in Europe though. BTW Toyota let's its juniors race with Opel logos in F3.

Now that is some crossover. The Megane EuroCup is one of the last championships I would've thought anyone would try to use as a stepping-stone into Champ Car.

Assuming the test does happen, that is (which obviously in no way guarantees he'll be on the 2006 Champ Car grid).

Considering that Heylen never had much of a budget I would guess that he took the frive in Meganes because there was nothing for him in single seaters, not as a career move.

I reckon I perhaps shouldn't have been so surprised - he has some open-wheel merits after all, including finishing 3rd in German F-3 in 2004 and finishing 2nd in British Formula Ford in 2002 (as well as winning the Brands Hatch Formula Ford Festival the same year) plus some more.

Also, here's a site with the press-release about his Champ Car test.

Apparently Bjorn Wirdheim is working towards getting a test with Rocketsports.

Good luck Bjorn - he richly deserves a second season after a strong rookie campaign. With Glock likely to move on and McDowell still unproven, Rocketsports are in the hunt for a quality driver to lead the team.

Is Rocketsports a step up though? They really stunk through most of 2005. Glock made the car look a lot better than it really was. If HVM can get some cashflow I think they'd be a much stronger team than Rocketsports.
