p.s. person who grassed me up was in fact my brother, so any embarrasing problems with the Tomcat between now and when it appears in the DTRC will be published here !

Congratultions to all, an entertaining day. Well done to Rod, two more wins, and the rest of those on the podium.
My best manoeuvre of the day was Jason Watkins and Nick Williamson missing each other on the exit of paddock when Nick got it all sideways and was almost stationary broadside in the middle of the track.

Yes, Jason missing Nick was very, very close...! Everyone one in the grandstand, including me, thought he wasnt going to get past

Was good to put faces to names (Rod & Sue, Al Weyman and Eric Falce...) - had a good day. And Rod & Sue - sorry I didn't get back to you with cake!

Was great to see the cars for the first time, really enjoyed it.

I would like to say a big big big thankyou to all who helped me get to the grid for this race. Without Rod's help, I would have been on my way home by 9am!
Big thanks for all who helped push when the varmit needed a push.

Great thanks go to Jon Mann who spannered for me today, and transformed an ill-handling beast into a not-so ill-handling monster. More of that to come when we find out how to increase the camber beyond 1.5deg on that front end without having to redesign it! I'm only using about 50% of the front tyres, and it doesn't understeer much now, so it should become pretty neutral.

Eddy - I owe you money for that hoogie - see me next time - are you coming to Silverstone or Snetterton? - had to get away as my boy was not happy, and was screaming the house down (fraying wife's nerves even further!)

What can I say, sadly, the Torrey Canyon/Amoco Cadiz, got stuck in a limbo somewhere in, or not in, 3rd gear going into Graham Hill bend on lap 4, leaving me with no drive. The engine was getting too hot (230F) which means my Rad isn't big enough, Plus the plumes of smoke out the back caused by the rocker cover gaskets refusing to seal properly again, and also due to the excess warmth. I had enough oil to finish the race (any anyone following me!), but no drive....... not going anywhere!.

Nice to put faces to some of the people on here that I've not met before (Suze, Eddy V), and some who "read but don't post"(much)....

Lots of work to do for Silverstone - hide the oil tank, fit the new gearbox (IF the ruddy thing ever arrives), rip out the engine and fix all of the leaks (I'm going to dip the whole thing in a vat of Silicone RTV - that'll sort it!), get bigger radiator, fit some oil coolers to help things further (though oil temp was OK at around 190F)(have to talk in Farenheit it's an American engine!)

Eddy - you spotted fluid - it was coolant as I'd suspected - the cap on the header tank has a useless seal (Rod - did you switch your cap with mine? - no, only joe king, I wondered if it was iffy some time back)

Once again, my motto is up to standard - P.Poor Preparation Prevents Perfect Performance (should be words 1 & 2 swapped with 5 - but if the cap fits...)

One bonus - I've still got plenty of gas in the tank for Silverstone, and it doesn't drink as much as I'd feared.

See you all there.

Rob.

Good effort Rob just getting it out there even if you laid a nice oil trail for me, made it a bit more exciting I quess.

Nice to meet Rob and Sue and SUze, Chezza and many more off the boards, isnt this place and the net a wonderful institution?

As far as I am concerned although I enjoyed the experience I found it all a bit manic for this old car/driver combination, I was quite surprised at some of the cars entered, (I thought 4 foot high wings like fitted to the Plymouth Superbird and Chapperal were banned years ago ). I know the rules are clear enough but when you see what you are up against in the flesh it was a bit of a surprise.

Interesting experience all the same but I think I may have to stick to championships the car was built for or spend shed loads and probably still not cut it with some of those wild rides as the car is just too heavy. The championship is obviously working and good luck to everyone but not really for me sadly. Maybe if they get a lot more entries and decide to split the races with Class A and all the outragious stuff out on there own I may give it another bash.

PS Eddy, sorry mate in the post race buzz I also forgot to pay you for the beer, I will catch up wiith you again this season no doubt.

Can I add to my observations of some of the cars entered and I would be interested to hear anyones comments on this but I was amazed at some of the aerodynamic devices on some of the cars even none class A cars. Now unless I am reading the regs completely wrong and I quote:

Bodywork 5.6

(h) Spoilers of standard dimensions and air dams are permitted below the level of the road wheel centres providing they do not protrude beyond the original coachwork in plan view including bumper, grill etc.

It says nothing about monster rear spoilers and splitters and great big snow ploughs on the front and also the section on bodywork starts off by saying 'With the exception of the following, no modifications are allowed to external or internal body panels, chassis or unitary construction'. Also I was under the impression that the strict Blue boook (I believe) ruling clearly states that you work on the premise that if it does not say you can do it then assume you cannot and I see no mention of big none standard aerodynamic devices in the regulations.

As I said before it is obviously working at the moment so fine but I was also once at the helm of a very successful race series that got out of hand because people wanted to keep pushing the boundaries and is now sadly a shadow of the championship it once was, I would hate to see this happen here.

That's a shame, Al. I think cars like yours help provide the variety that keep championships like this interesting. Looking through yesterday's grid, there were hardly two cars the same, and a lot of good racing.

I hope everyone who didn't make the 2nd race doesn't have any serious problems, and will be out at Silverstone.

Have to say a big "thank you" to Sue for finding a local bodyshop open for us (the 205 with the stoved in front end), and everyone who came over with the biggest hammer they could find. Class win, so was very worth it in the end, but the most impressive thing was how friendly everyone was and how close and clean the racing seemed to be. Great day.

Rob.

Funny, Andy Pipe said the same thing..... think we used a gallon all day in the car.

Clutch slave cylinder retaining Circlip came adrift as he changed down and that sent him flying off ...

Then it did it again in the first race but totally fell out with the loss of the piston and rod ... hunting through the van came up with a another cylinder but no pushrod, and there was a problem with the master as well so when it was raining harder and looking less and less like going out in race 2 it was decided ..........

"Pubs calling"

Great turn out and again its a joy to see such a varied amount of cars out there. Thanks to everyone who came over and took the mickiy out of Andy, there was some cracking one liners that had us all laughing ... and sums up one part of the spirit of the championship I think... ' if you can't take the mickiy out of your friends then who can you take the mickiy out of'

He'll be back next round .... still struggling away to find another 5 seconds a lap to get on to the pace of the class leader... but thats the thing isn't it... "must try harder"

my last DTRC

I guess I've done my last DTRC event!
Don't like it anymore!

It happened before at Spa with Graeme (Smith) and at Silverstone with Al (Weyman).
Met Alan (Cherry) yesterday: same thing.
Andy (Pipe), Rob (Compton): need I say more?

Finished, done, no more!

It seems that sometimes when I meet new people I put a jinx on their cars.

't Wasn't my fault, honest!

Anyone would like to hire me to meet their fellow competitors?

Joking obviously, nice to meet the ones I met yesterday and be able to put faces to names. Enjoyed both races, even if the second one was cut short.

You're all safe: I can't do the next two events.

Rob, in the race it was even worse. It came out by the buckets (well small ones ) again just behind the left front wheel.

About the Hoogi, we'll arrange something next time.
I've already jinxed you, so you are safe now to meet again.

Rod, dont think it just suits the Fiesta's,think it didnt suit the mini until he got the bit between his teeth and realy started to put hammer down,he came past me on the last lap like a Chevy!
Must say a very enjoyable meeting except for the state of the track in the practice session, picked up something that put a bloody great hole in the O/S/F tyre, had to do the race with some tyres and wheels from the Escort, good fun trying to keep it in a straight line though.

That wasn't Jason's only near miss. It got very close in practice at the exit of Druids when Cross lost it on cold tyres. Still amazes me how the rest missed them.

Well done all for some good racing.
