Do take into consideration that these prototypes frequently travel above 200 mph. At such speeds EVERYTHING is amplified. I know at a stand still my mid-size SUV can handle heavy cross winds. At 65 mph on the highway in the same wind, things can get hairy in regards to staying between the roadway lines.

Everything is amplified, including downforce values. If LMP1 cars produce similar/more load than an F1 car, I doubt it would be blown over by wind! |

I could easily see a strong gust making the difference between control and out of control if conditions were right. I'm not sure what the aerodynamic interaction is between the shark fin and the rear wing, but I'd imagine it's considerable... Just the right (or rather, wrong) combination of speed, direction, mechanical grip and add in an unanticipated gust of wind and it could be bad.
That said as Lola T70 mentioned, you would think this problem would show up on F1 cars if it was a problem. |

I wasn't saying it would be blown over, just adding that from my (very limited aerodynamics) perspective that with a cross wind of sorts, whether or not this is what caused any crashes, could aid in the loss of control in one of these machines, could it not? Sorry if my thoughts are totally off base.

Does your car get blown over on it's side in cross winds? How about SUV's or big 18 wheel trucks? Unless you have hurricane force winds, I don't see anything happening to these cars with the 'fin'.

But the people in the know seem to think its not possible. I doubt we will ever find out from Peugeot. |

Now that we know that the Audi R18 will have a TDI V6 engine, do you think Peugeot will opt for a HDI V6 too, or do they stick to V8(or even something else)...what about the latest rumours

Latest is still V8, but someone mentioned to me yesterday they had specifically heard 3.5 liter turbo diesel V6.

Any particular reason why they wouldn't build an engine to the maximum capacity allowed by the rules? Packaging? Some kind of dynamics-related reason?

Mayhap the R18 V6 prompted that rumour? Seeing as MM has commented on the 90X being a V8 since. Assuming sources are accurate, of course.
I am surprised the 90X may well have a shorter wheelbase than the R18, as visually, it looks longer. Perhaps I need to see my optician! |

At Monza, on track, running.
They had a limited Press Release when the 'spy shots' were published. This would be, oh, a month back, now? |

There were a LOT of new parts on that shortened 908 if it was just a mule...
Just read this thread! |

It has a roof, 4 wheels, and a Lion Rampant badge. Any other bets are risky!
