Conti series is basically like old school Trans-Am. A true stock car touring series. GS cars don't have wings or spilters unless they actually come with the car. Like the Z/28 Cameros.

Which was exactly the deal with GT4 until a couple of years ago.

Here's something interesting: Maserati will switch to a new car for their one make series for next year, but all the current cars will be transformed to GT4 specs and offered for sale.

According to gt-eins the KTM X-Bow GT4 has the potential of a GT3 car without all regulatory restrictions.
The car is racing with 150 kg ballast, the engine could have 360 HP and 7200 rpm and is being limited at 320 HP and 5000 rpm. It also has several aerodynamic restrictions too. I would like to see this car unrestricted, in one of the many second line series that accepting not homologated GT3 cars. http://www.gt-eins.at/cms/index.php?...10593&Itemid=1 |

There was news today that mentioned IMSA will allow gt4 cars into their series on a case by case basis. Which got me thinking the new cayman gt4 was allowed, but are others? I know there has been an Aston from time to time but not sure if it was gt4 spec.

The Astons are "a" GT4 spec.... GT4 itself hasn't been static and IIRC the GS-cars didn't get all the latest goodies that the GT4s have over here.

Naw, that's more of a GT3.5 kind of car... Think of it as a competitor to the Porsche Cup-cars or Audi's SP4T TT-RS (though they don't build those anymore).

Two Teams may want to enter the VLN Series next year. At the Essen Motor Show in Germany I spotted the KTM of Zawotec Motorsport: |

It seems odd that Porsche would homologate and produce a GT4 Cayman only one year before a switch to 4 cyl turbo in the street version - unless the 6 will be an option?

well, perhaps they know the strengths of each engine and the 6 is better suited to racing? Plus I'm guessing the gt4 homologation is for a number of years just as the gt3 is.

I'm sure the 6 is better for racing for some time to com - ages of development behind it but the point is that the car will only represent the street version for 1 year, how liberal will GT4 rules be? It also would diminish the PR value to Porsche.

Also, Porsche are not in this for marketing value, but to sell cars to customers. |
