I'm not sure on the exact differences, but I think aero is the biggest difference between CTSCC and GS. It seems pretty simple to go from CTSCC to PWC's GTS or CTSCC ST to PWC's TC

Conti series is basically like old school Trans-Am. A true stock car touring series. GS cars don't have wings or spilters unless they actually come with the car. Like the Z/28 Cameros.

Here's something interesting: Maserati will switch to a new car for their one make series for next year, but all the current cars will be transformed to GT4 specs and offered for sale.

... and some of the current one-make Trofeo cars possibly being converted to GTX/GT4 specs for the upcoming Gulf 12H in December: http://sportscar365.com/gt/gulf12h/g...t-r-s-01-cars/

This could indeed be a very interesting end of the year for the Gran Turismo.

According to gt-eins the KTM X-Bow GT4 has the potential of a GT3 car without all regulatory restrictions.
The car is racing with 150 kg ballast, the engine could have 360 HP and 7200 rpm and is being limited at 320 HP and 5000 rpm. It also has several aerodynamic restrictions too.
I would like to see this car unrestricted, in one of the many second line series that accepting not homologated GT3 cars.

There was news today that mentioned IMSA will allow gt4 cars into their series on a case by case basis. Which got me thinking the new cayman gt4 was allowed, but are others? I know there has been an Aston from time to time but not sure if it was gt4 spec.

The Astons are "a" GT4 spec.... GT4 itself hasn't been static and IIRC the GS-cars didn't get all the latest goodies that the GT4s have over here.

Naw, that's more of a GT3.5 kind of car... Think of it as a competitor to the Porsche Cup-cars or Audi's SP4T TT-RS (though they don't build those anymore).

It seems odd that Porsche would homologate and produce a GT4 Cayman only one year before a switch to 4 cyl turbo in the street version - unless the 6 will be an option?

well, perhaps they know the strengths of each engine and the 6 is better suited to racing? Plus I'm guessing the gt4 homologation is for a number of years just as the gt3 is.

I'm sure the 6 is better for racing for some time to com - ages of development behind it but the point is that the car will only represent the street version for 1 year, how liberal will GT4 rules be? It also would diminish the PR value to Porsche.

GT4 is not in the shape to turn away cars, one of the mainstays of the European series is still the BMW E90 M3, which has been out of production for a bit.

Also, Porsche are not in this for marketing value, but to sell cars to customers.

Hans Reiter about KTM X-Bow GT4:

Quote:
...

“We have sold around 25 cars with 15 already delivered and yes, financially that programme is now very much our focus.

“GT4 is definitely beginning to take off, maybe within 2-3 years at the current rate we’ll see it close in overall numbers to the current level of GT3 in the market.

“Not all of the KTMs are for racing, it’s proved to be popular with some customers for trackdays and testing, and we are selling cars in Europe, in Asia and in the USA too. I do though want to find a customer i the UK, British GT looks a very strong market for GT4.

“We have sold seven into the USA with four entered in the Pirelli World Challenge (ANSA Motorsport’s pair of XBows pictured above).”

...

“The car went well in the Dubai 24 Hours (below), one set of pads, no discs, the KTM uses Lamborghini brakes on a car that is 250 kilos lighter.

“It’s light on tyres too, in Dubai we were able to go five hours at competitive pace on a single set!”

€139,000 will buy the KTM in GT4 spec with a full carbon tub, sequential shift and all the trimmings.

Problems for Porsche Cayman GT4:

Quote:
...
Polite enquiries to the Championship elicited a response that the cars were late in arriving with customers and a discreet use of the editorial contacts book revealed that customers have now been told that their originally communicated February delivery dates have slipped to late April, after the opening round of the British Championship and just a week before Round 2!
...
There are concerns too amongst some that the original spec of the car appears to have changed from that touted in initial sales conversations with a sizeable ‘upgrades’ package now priced at a five figure sum including some items that early customers maintain they were told were part of the standard car.

And to cap it all DSC understands that the Porsche will not have completed the homologation process for the Cayman even on delivery with the cars then racing under a waiver from the race organisers.
