Don't worry... times will definitely close up.

First time for pretty much all these guys on track, and the track will still be very green, so no point in taking risks. Even if times aren't close in P2, they will be in qualifying. You never know who's doing what with tires, co drivers etc.

#48 GB Galvanizing Lambo has been withdrawn after contact at Turn four earlier today

One of the cars I was really looking forward to seeing...

GT Racing is usually like that, nice cars but big different in speeds and drivers. Must admit pretty good quality of driver line up but that is only because of this event, not a usual Australian GT round, even one ex Formula 1. Wouldn't it be good to see Ivan out in the Benetton B191. He was racing F1 the same time as that car.

I think you may find it will be Ivan doing the demo laps... well I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere anyway

Well that would be pretty cool if that was the case. Worth a look if you are around that part of the country.

Ivan was a star in F1 during the late 1980s but it all went wrong for him and his year at Ferrari finished him off at the top level.

Well, I've been at the track since 11:00 this morning, until near the end of the three hour race. What a meeting!! Huge crowds, great racing. Will chuck a few images up tonight.

Look forward to seeing the photos. Can anyone tell me if we are getting to see any of the racing on our tv in the near future? Sorry if this has already been mentioned but didn`t see it at a quick glance. Thanks.

Speedcafe has also posted up a set of brief highlights of yesterdays racing which is well worth a watch, looks like there was a respectable crowd there:

Can the Aussie GTs do two rounds in NZ, next year and run Hampton Downs the following weekend?

Looks like a helluva lot of concrete close to the track? What are the run offs like?

Bit of fairy tale with Quinn winning the the race.

Concrete was quite close in a few places, mainly coming onto the front straight, and on a couple of slower speed corners.

A bit of bad luck for the other Quinn in todays race - Baird hit a Seat and crunched three corners, apparently he broke both the front brake rotors, so must have been a pretty big hit!

Baird bounced off the tunnels walls, he tried to pass in the corner but if he waited 2 seconeds he would of past the seat on the straight under the tunnel.

Goat Boy has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
My very first comment about that circuit was that I didn't like that tunnel...

Seems like the Seat wasn't aware of what was happening around him, and giving racing room to the faster cars coming through??

There was a massive speed difference there, kinda begs the question what a GT3 Porsche and a stock as a block Seat shopping car are doing in the same race? What ever happened to the old 107% qualifying time?

Fairly standard in multi-class racing, pretty normal for the Silverstone 24hrs, for instance.

The onboard gives the impression he got two wheels on the grass on the right which spat him back across the track, unless there was contact with the Seat which we can't see.

Pretty sure that the 'stock as a block Seat' is an ex-WTCC touring car - not exactly stock. Certainly a better piece of kit than some of the other privateer entries in the 101.

107% only applies in some classes. If it was applied to all classes, there'd be far too many tiny grids; there'd be no racing as entry fees would be too high; zero spectators.

Motorsport is less attractive the fewer cars there are on the grid and for my money, Bathurst in days of old,was probably the best race anywhere in the world - until they effectively eliminated "wombats in billy carts" to quote DJ.

Really? WTCC? Well Bairdo certainly screamed up on the back of it pretty fast indeed. Didn't honestly think a WTCC car would be that slow.

Totally agree, the privateers brought a lot to The Great Race, sadly they got shut out of it by the elitists.

I always thought that the Seats were from the Supercopa series that runs in Europe. Probably not too much difference to the WTCC cars, just slightly different aero, probably a different aero package, built for endurance racing, so larger fuel cell etc.

Not 100% sure though, I could be wrong...
