Castroneves says Penske won't be messing with aero kits:

This is another example of why, if you could cap costs, you could promote innovation.

Penske won't do the R&D for an aero kit, since he'd have to sell them to everybody and thus have no advantage. If you could enforce a cap on R&D, then everybody could build their own and you wouldn't be forced to share your design.

So one company who spends the most on R&D will come up with the best kit, which everyone will be able to buy. Penske isn't the only one who will recognize it's a game that isn't worth playing.

Penske racing will not be producing aero kits for the 2012 Dallara chassis. At least, that's what Helio Castroneves was quoted as saying:

Love those cars. Especially the aero, I wish both F1 and IRL would adopt exactly those wings as standard for their front and rear wings.
Bet they would be able to race and would not cripple one another with wake turbulence.
Oh yeah and get the engines to 3.5 litre na's.

Those cars are in speedway configuration, hence the aeros. If you notice on the fins, the nearer car has Toyota on hit and the one behind has Audi. I tried e-mailing the pic to Penske, asking if it was a mock-up but it bounced back.

The cars in that configuration with small aero and large tyres would deliver magnificent racing on a road course.
I take it the minimal aero on a speedway is to stop the wake turbulence writing off the cars behind.

I believe running the cars in that configuration on road courses would solve the ability of the cars to race in close company and atract the spectators back.

Would cost nothing to implement either!

Minimum aeros is something you've been advocating on the F1 section of 10-Tenths. The minimal wings on the speedway configuration are designed to reduce drag and produce less downforce. The downforce that is produced comes from the Venturi tunnels on the underside of the car.

As for those cars, they look like PC 24s.

If the F1 cars looked like this with a standard aero package and they could actually race each other properly, they would represent a massive step forward in good looks ( the current cars look like a vacuum cleaner pushing the kids meccano set across the carpet) and entertainment.

BJ could you post a copy of that pic into the F1 aero conspiracy thread and ask the guys what they would think if the F1s looked like that and could race.
