So there's the LMP1-P/LMP1/LMP1-Non-Hybrid/LMP1-Privateer/(former) LMP1-L sub category... easy as pie

It just struck to me that the real reason they might've actually axed initial 'L' and pretended that they've re-unified the P1 class is because they went to 850kg from 800kg in order to equalize overweight Kolles and lighter Rebellion. Obviously they haven't done what Oak's Nicolet wanted = distinctive one class

Artur should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Is the min weight of 1245kg with driver included? If not, that would make a quite heavy car over 1300kg. Of all series I know, only NASCAR have heavier cars(+1500kg)

That, and there's no real limit on engine capacity in LMP1, just 5.5 liters NA for private teams.

Couple of VLN specials with some 1300+kg weights. The SLS GT3 and LFA Code X are 1300-1350kg. Amazing they have that speed with such weight.

Couple of seasons ago the much discussed Callaway GT3 Corvette had FIA-designated weight of 1270kg + 100kg of BoP penalty + X amount of automatic success ballast, so it must've been over 1400kg, and that's without fuel and driver...

For people who have got access to it this is an interesting piece on the whole WEC/F1 debate, and something a lot of forumers have touched on - why the need to compare the two?

Don't agree with all of it and not a huge fan of the tone (I took it as a bit of a slight against the WEC commentary team), but it is quite thought-provoking. Love sportscar racing on its own merits.

I took it that way too, although it's a very valid point. I'm starting to get a little frustrated with many corners of our sport throwing attacks at Formula One. It's an intelligent sport, so the people watching it are intelligent enough to know what they do and don't like and why.

I strongly disagree with his point that endurance racing is too long to ever become popular. Okay, it's never going to have millions of people tuning in in the UK live, for example, but why can it not get to the stage where Joe Public knows who won Le Mans the previous year, or name a couple of WEC drivers?

The Tour de France gets huge coverage in the UK. Obviously, most of it is highlights on ITV but there are a considerable amount of people who watch it live. The same for Test Match cricket. A lot of people have passing interests in these sports and you wouldn't exactly describe them as niche. But it's only the enthusiasts who sit down and watch every minute of it, and that's absolutely fine.

If people can stay at home indoors and watch a few blokes cycle through a French field for days, or watch a ball being thrown at a stick for a period of time as long as a working week, then there is absolutely no reason why a sport where cars go round in circles for a paltry 6 hours can't increase in popularity.

Already posted this on LM section, but since it technically covers WEC as well - one of the best news ever has been just more or less confirmed!!!!!! It's on equal or perhaps even better than the 60 garages for 2016, because...

Wow, we might actually see some racing during the night. Although usually at night we get to see more from the onboard cameras than usual, still a massive change for the better.

Have you read the article by Dieter Rencken where he also discusses F1 V's WEC in the Audi context where he points out a lot in favour of the WEC in comparison to F1.

Well I haven't watched it on TV since 2011, but I must admit I kinda liked it when it shifted to the night, and things calmed down with Onboards and more focus on the pits. It suited the night atmosphere which is also present at Le Mans, everything except the cars and teams slow down and the crowd thins out. Only the diehard stays alive (or sorta alive )

AFCORSE51 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
AF CORSE #51 at LeMans...

Gianmaria Bruni has 11 wins since 2011...most of ANY driver in the WEC, in ANY class..last year as many of you know, the #51 won LeMans with no garage issues at all, only time was for the scheduled brake pad change. This year with Fisichella and Vilander back with AF CORSE for LeMans, I see no other way any other team can beat this team...AF CORSE will be running the new 488 next season, I just hope we dont see them struggle while its developed, the 458 struggled a couple of seasons when it took the reigns from the 430. The engineers in Maranellodo their homework better than the rest. LeMans in 2013 was a disaster for the #51, the ACO had the 458 so restricted it was so far off the pace and had no chance to win...

I'm hoping the producers will strike a nice balance during the night between the track and pits/stories etc. This could be excellent.
