Not often one sees an MGB overtaking a 917!

Hmm,
Perhaps you missed the syntax of the underlying metaphor. |

Graham, are you baling out in that top picture? your helmet appears to be coming out of the roof. How does that square with 2" below the roll bar!!!!!!!

I have to admit that i am being overtaken by Miss Sears in her MGB. I was going backwards by then and the engine let go about 30 seconds after that picture was taken.
I think i must have been getting ready to bale out as that shot looks like i,m trying to head butt my way out of the side window. I promise to do better next time out as long as the rebuilt engine behaves itself. GT. |

Lol, I was joking! But thanks for clarifying Graham. I feel for you. We ran the bearings in the new B engine at Brands. Strip out and re build time.

how did that happen Pete sounds like you need an Accusump in there or a better sump? Nearly all the problems I have seen from thrown rods to broken cranks are nearly always down to oil starvation.

Reading the safety info for Summer Classic on the Roadbook site, I see that rule only applies to OPEN cars; so the 917 and 924 would appear to be OK for elongated drivers!

Sorry to hear you have a rebuild job as well. I just wish Porsche engines were an easier and less costly rebuild. |

I would guess surge if the engine has been screwed together correctly. Why organisations persist we use wet sumps 'to save costs' is beyond me. I staryed racing at a little backwoods 1/4 mile oval in an old Anglia HotRod and always used dry sumps way back then, it actually saves money in the long run. I hear all this argument about more power from a dry sump system big deal its marginal, its the reliability factor that counts.

Not sure and not going to speculate on here.
What I will say is that the car needs the pedals sorted (heel n toe) and a couple of other bits, but none the less was an absolute hoot to drive. Even with a high fuel load it was amongst the faster MGBs in the first hour, excluding the one with Tom Smith in it of course. |

Dinkel,
Your photographs are really good and help capture the flavour of the meeting, which will grow into an even larger event next year. GT. |

Good to see that the 'Tree Man' has survived the circuit changes, too! I note that one of his arms is a tad skeletal though!

Claire,
i,ll always be supportive of what you are doing and hopefully next year, now that all the "personal nasties" have been dealt with i will be able to get more entries for the WBS, or whatever its going to be called in future. That is if there will be a race for us ??? Can i please ask why there has been no praise or talk of what the FORC people laid on. By any standards what we put on display, from varied and rare competition cars to celebrity drivers was quite something. Those who did see that top area of paddock filled with 70 odd cars all had good things to say, as it was a nice paddock and interest filling display especially for the spectators. As of tonight there has been no thanks or acknowledgement for all the hard work that the FORC team went to. It was hard work for me too, as i supplied and erected the marquee as well as having the car in the race as well as on show. Some of Dinkels great pictures show some small glimses of some of the display. Do FORC not deserve some acknowledgement please. GT. |

I certainly acknowledged the effort in my earlier posts. I'm sure others have too.

I'm sure they do - and thought I'd read some comments in one or other of the threads....I suspect the relative lack of comments is just down to the fact that for anyone actively involved in the 6 hour race - most of the posters on here, I'd surmise - the opportunity to wander around and see the display didn't arise......I know it didn't for me....shame - I'd have liked to have seen it

I'm sorry if anybody felt that FORC's contribution was not adequately appreciated or acknowledged.
As everybody knows, it was only our second attempt within 12 months in organising a race meeing and, as such, on both occasions we were under some degree of scrutiny from the MSA as well as MSV - we had to get the race meeting logistics and content right - which I believe we did. The contribution from FORC was very much appreciated and we hope that will continue for next year - the plan is to have a much more integrated motorsport event rather than just a race meeting but we have to work much harder to achieve that - I'm not too proud or complacent to admit we still have things to learn, particularly in the area of off track logistics. Please stick with us and I know that both Claire and I are commited to include FORC in the plan to make the 2012 6 hour meeting an event that we can all enjoy and be proud of. |
