The wetlands are the dirty green airbrushed areas.

Speed Demon should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Here's my go at the challenge. To get it up to length in the available space I've had to add a few twiddly bits, a la Donington Park. But I hope I've been able to keep the spirit of the circuit intact. Unfortunately, the banking has had to go.

That's good, but the track runs anti-clockwise. My mistake for not mentioning it.

Autodromo Gonzalo Rodriguez:

Kept the banking, but had to kill the top hairpin to have enough space fo the bit around T7. Grandstands and big walls all around the banked curve and up the main striaght, and a left-right bend before the banking so we won't need to see the walls in action.
2 club variations, one longer, one shorter.
Seating area over 4x original, or 100,000 screaming fans.

Oh, yeah - runs anticlockwise, just like the original.

Damn you Fish! I already designed a clockwise course!

Oh well, I'll just have to do another one. Here's the clockwise one I already did, though.

Yeah, I know, the FIA would say the straights are too long... But I won't hack up a perfectly good circuit any more than this.

the FIA, I've got to have my ethics.

Didn't anyone read my post? There is NO runoff in the DOUBLE-APEX banked turns 5 and 6! If the circuit went clockwise, where would the banked double-apex turn be? Don't worry too much, the original went anti-clockwise, the redesign doesn't have to be.

I figured out the scale, and the front straightaway (including the turn 1 kink) is about 4,500 feet long. Definitely too long for those FIA wussies. I'm working on my own redesign now, don't know what to do with it. My original was so delightfully simple, I don't want to touch it.

That's not what I meant. That was a rant about how you thought the track went clockwise. Even I put runoff at the double-apex. Sorry if I was misunderstood.

Runoff at the 5/6 complex could be dangerous because you'd have to bank the runoff or else risk having cars get airborne a bit to easily when leaving the track. Banking the runoff would also allow dirt and other filth to get onto the track easier - hence the walls and kink I put in to slow it down.

It has sure been quiet the last couple of days. It was about time for a new challenge. And it's a good one, too! I'll post my design somewhere today.

Why do the FIA have limits on long straights anyway? Surely the longer the stragiht, the better:confused:

Is there an official limit to the lenght of straights? Now that's news for me!

Here's my version of the new Circuit Gonzalo Rodriguez. As you can see, I left the two (very interesting) turns intact. The only thing I did, is that I removed the banking from the double-apex left in the bottom of the image. I also moved the pits upwards from the lower right corner. Tell me what you think!

The length of a straight is limited to something like 1 mile, or 1km i think. Hence chicanes at Le Mans, shortened Paul Ricard-Le Castellet, the chicane on the Conrod straight at Bathurst, and various other chicanes here and there....

I reckon the only reason for such a rule is top speeds?!

yeah, i think cars backflipping at Bathurst and Le Mans, were the real reason. Cars at Le Mans in particular were doing 240mph past people's houses.

That's quite fast indeed.

I read a post on AtlasF1 that the highest top speed ever measured on the Mulsanne straight was 407 km/h.

Yep, 252mph i think. I read somewhere that Win Percy backflipped on the Mulsannes somewhere in a Group C jaguar, and slid down the track on it's roof, wearing away the roof, and the top of Win's helmet before it stopped!

Yeah, but it's a damn stupid rule. The cars never would have flipped if they hadn't taken away ground effects!

Race cars going fast?! Dear God, this must be stopped!!!

Okay, fair enough, but that's one incident... The Mercedes flips at LeMans were the ones people really got up in arms about.
