Yep, the white one is Seppo Niittymäki’s 911 BiTurbo that went to Jarmo Lähteenmäki later.

Nope, the yellow one is Matti Alamäki’s 911 BiTurbo, but it went to Mauno Jokinen, the father of reignin Finnish RX champion Marko Jokinen.

These two 4WD Porsches were possibly the strongest cars ever in RX, producing 750+bhp on the track rather than on a dyno.

I seem to remember Matti's car was considerably lower than this with a wider track in its last year.

Whose car did Pauli Silvennionen use? And didnt Pekka use a Porcge first of all before the RS200?

They alwasy sounded amazing and from watching videos you could see what Matti was capable of, he drove that thing with such skill and ability.

In 1986, the last year before the arrival of flocks of GpB cars, the final standings of the Finnish RX Championship were the following:

1. Matti Alamäki – Porsche 911 BiTurbo 4x4 – 63 points
2. Seppo Niittymäki – Ford Escort Mk3 Xtrac – 61
3. Jukka Pelttari – Porsche 911 BiTurbo 4x4 – 61
4. Antero Nikkinen – Porsche 911 BiTurbo 4x4 – 59
5. Pekka Rantanen – Porsche 911 BiTurbo 4x4 – 46
6. Harri Öhman – Porsche 911 SC 4x4 – 44
7. Jarmo Lähteenmäki – Porsche 911 BiTurbo 4x4 – 41 (ex Seppo Niittymäki)
8. Timo Virtanen – Audi quattro – 39 (ex Walter Mayer)
9. Juha Holm – Porsche 911 SC 4x4 – 37
10. Jorma Vilander – Porsche 911 SC 4x4 – 34

8 of the 10 cars 4WD 911s…

Sorry, you're wrong rx-guru. The Alamäki Porsche on the picture went to Jukka Pelttari not Jokinen. It was the 1986 car that Jokinen bought.

I think you’re right! The pic must be from the 1985 RX GP as the car has the 'E' for the reigning European Champion. In 1986 Jukka Pelttari drove it to 8th place overall in the ERC, while Matti became 3rd overall with a new 911. However, as I do not know how many different 911s Matti owned over the years, I wonder if that car on the pic is still his first 911, in the late 1970s driven in RX by the late Martti Kangas (later aka "Jorma Kovanen"). BTW, I needed 20+ years to learn from a Finn that Jorma Kovanen means something like "big dick"…

Anyone here to remember this RX car http://www.ms-insider.com/Forum/down...ile.php?id=245 and the name of its driver?

Questioned in an Austrian RX forum and pictured in the late 1980s or early 1990s during a RX event at Stadtallendorf in Germany.

The blue colour reminds me on Mark Flaherty’s 6R4, but the yellow sticker is a Norwegian sponsor http://www.sonnak.com/ while the rest of the advertising is German related stuff.

Wasn't there some rumors about the Alamaki 205 being restored to former Rally looks for a Museum in France? Would be a shame as the car had 3 wins in a row in Rallycross... So keep it red with the white roof!
The black rs200 is not martins old car.
The owner is Hasse Møller from sweden. He bougth the car from ford motorsport.
Chassi nr 145. One of martins 200 is still in norway the oder one( 012) is sold to a collecor in i think switzerland.

Put this pic for a Group S article (German language only!) in the Wikipedia yesterday:

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fi...jpg?uselang=de

AFAIK Welchie had both Opel’s 1986 Paris Dakar Kadetts available for RX. I saw one myself in February 1995 in parts stored in Tommy Kristoffersson’s workshop at Arvika.
I read in a forum somewhere that Mike Endean himself has a "Vauxhall Astra 4S" at home, perhaps the second Welch Kadett…
Anyone out there to confirm or having other information?

I do remember Tommy buying parts for a car, mainly to use the gearbox?

Didnt jernberg buy something similar for parts aswell?

I know John built at least two cars, and presuming the one that was later on painted again in STP colours is the one Tommy bought?

John finished well in the GP a few times with this when he was semi retired I recall

Yep, Tommy used the Kadett’s Xtrac system for his Audi Coupé S2.
AFAIK Jernberg bought the ex-Niittymäki, ex-Forsberg, ex-Sauthon Mk3 Escort to use its Xtrac system for his own Cossie.

I knew it was one of the old Xtrac cars

be interesting to know if Endeans is in any kind of state to run, as he has used the original Xtrac a few times.

I think John hit the Paddock tyre wall ver ahrd in a wet race once, and this sort of hastened the build of the newwer car with black wheels and suff

Bt am not sure it was written off

A friend of mine had a thing about Mk2 Astras for a number of years (each to their own ) and he spoke to John about the rallycross cars a couple of years back - John mentioned that one of them had been standing outside idle for a number of years and had just been stripped for parts and the shell was going to be scrapped as it was beyond salvation. So it seems like at least one of the Welch cars is no more

MG Rover Sport should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
There is a member on a well known German rally forum (I don't think I'm allowed to post a link to it, but if you search for Rallye Magazin De I'm sure you'll find it!)

In the History section a member (called Gruppe-B Fan) has posted a topic entitled Opel Kadett Rally 4x4 Gruppe-B in which he states (translated using Google!)...

Does anybody know where these parts of the Opel Kadett 4x4 Rally Group B standing, or where these pictures have been taken?

Think that the owners of these parts of the rest speak chassis, etc. from a cadet has.

Find it a shame that we as a rarity of Group B rally car so can go bad.

Am grateful for any help.

I'm pretty sure that the parts were For Sale on ebay (the original image filenames include ebay within them - which is a bit of a giveaway!), and there is further talk about this rallycross car when you find the thread - it's all in German mind you! Here are the photos that accompany his post...

Such a shame too see them classic parts laid out like that fond Memory's of the awesome Astra/Kadett.Front end looks not to be from the same year as the other parts.Sure John debut that scheme at the Rallycross Grand prix with the racing green spoiler?

fully agree - the sport needs someway to look after its heritage. Just look what is happening on the short ovals, with historic stock cars. classic hot rods and saloon stocks, and a magazine dedicated to the sports history published 4 times a year.

if thats all thats left, shame it cannot be put together to form some sort of gate guard as with aircraft at air stations. And erected at a track. Donington has its spitfire (though in very poor state of repair last time I saw it), and model of blue bird.

real shame as that was one very exciting car to watch, and fought bravely against a tide of Group B machinery.

I do know a lot about teh historic stock car scene, havign been involved in stock cars myself, it has taken off big style, especially down South where Brisca dont have a stronghold.

At least those parts are still with us for Johns car. He has obviously parted with them and moved on, mainly helping his lad.

There must be a way to get some of this stuff together somewhere. Maybe some rich guy can start getting together a museum!!

Buy Pekka's RS200, a few Metro's, off we go.

I am still wanting to write my GpB book!! So any offers of help are greatly appreciated to detail this Golden Era of the best motorsport on earth!

Agree totally - these old rallycross cars should be preserved, and have some form of revival / retro series for themselves. Just think about one race with six or eight Group B cars fighting each other. They don't need to conform to the latest British or Euro rules, as they are running by themselves. Think about the spectacle and how many paying public would fork out their 'hard earned' to witness those days all over again. I know I certainly would!

On a slightly different topic, we all know that Will's bi-turbo 6R4 is now hillclimbing in Ken Sims' hands. Here is a photo of it...

http://www.flickr.com/photos/stonebarn/230476379/

...but isn't it a major shame that Ken hasn't kept the black / red / gold livery that everyone is so familiar with? That livery is so iconic and memorable. Here is a photo when the previous owner Robert Morgan had it in Northern Ireland for sprinting. I think this photo says it all...

http://www.flickr.com/photos/rustyra...15582/sizes/l/

...I rest my case!
