As the rules for pre-93 currently stand you only need the door cards not the rear vertical trim as you do in the clubs Group 1 and pre 74. Also the cards do not have to be original but of a comparable material, The original hinges for boot and bonnet also can be removed so you could in fact set up lightweight bonnet and hatch held on by pins and do the same with the steel and glass versions and it would take literally minutes to swap over, way to go. I also believe the tyres will be available at a very preferable price to racers.

Just checked on the regs and you can run a fibreglass bonnet and boot anyhow as the rules stand at the moment, I really think a lot of these cars will fit like a glove into this.

Any idea of how long a set of those will last on an 850kg front-drive car? And are they much cop in the wet? I have slicks and intermediates (ao48s) already, but figured my existing wets were crap and put them on the girlfriend's road car. Don't fancy shelling out on wets (for DTRC) and 888s if I have to run them in pre-93.

Would Toyo let us use Proxes if it rains?
I hope so we have the option to use Proxes for at least a year, my wets have only been used once!

The 888's are pretty in the wet providing there isn't a lot of standing water.

I have been told by an unreliable source that there may be the possibility of a 888 wet. Basically a 'cut 888'. Could be interesting if it emerges!

Put it by JohnW Dennis I cannot personally see a problem as it is on the face of it a lower spec tyre.

I'll raise it Denis, can't see why not.
Must say though, that I've used the 888 in heavy rain and standing water and it's fine.
Didn't you guys buff the Proxes?

I have accrilite pistons in mine, but the rings are on the way out. Mr Holmes has these pistons too. We are looking at a group buy for discount on pistons over the winter, in the Tomcat owners club, would he be interested?

Can I ask who this Tomcat is?

In the "good old days" things like this years Renault Clio Cup cars would have automatically been "handed down" to the Super Coupe Cup as the new Renault Clio was introduced to the TOCA supporting championship but that obviously is not an option any more. Its a shame as they appear to be good cars and there are now a few available to the clubman for reasonable money. I wonder where they will all end up racing? I have seen one in the Classic Sports Car Club's "Tin Tops" 2 driver challenge and another one in the Le Mans Euro saloons series. Mini touring cars and sequential gear changes for about £8-10K....tempting? But, if there's no where to run them competitively......

Three different Clios came out in the LMA Euro Saloons this season at various times but as they ran in the same class as the Super Tourers, they were not so competitive

Regs submitted to the MSA for 2007 have changed the class structure and taken the Super Tourers into a separate class, leaving the Clios to race against the likes of Tony Soper's Alfa GTV. Martin Byford was more than capable of running at that pace and thus the Clio should be a potential class winner in 2007

a tom cat is a rover 220 coupe, with a 2.0 16v turbo engine, or put it another way its a coupe version of the 4 series saloon with the 2.0 turbo engine from the 8 series

Interesting I always thought it was a fancy name for the racing version. So tell me graham, is it actually a production saloon of a 5000 run in that configuration because if not then surely that has some ramifications and maybe it should not even have been running in some championships and definitely will require the 5000 minimum in Pre-93's?

I haven't checked these facts, but I always thought it was called TomCat, because of the Turbo Coupé name.

I could be talking Total Crap

Thanks for the info - has their been a wider announcement about this (MN & Autosport etc) as this new class structure could make The Clio Cup cars an attractive buy.

Anyone know how easy/ expensive they are to run (and I mean in a club environment rather than in the one make series itself)?

You're right, I think they've missed a trick there. The whole point of the change was to attract the likes of the outgoing Clios and possibly the outgoing Seats (before we knew they would run 2 classes for 2007)

I'll talk to LMA about going public in the media - you can contact the LMA Euro Saloons people via the web site at www.lmaeurosaloons.co.uk, and if you PM me I can give the email address of one of our Clio drivers. His car was for sale recently - and he could also give you some ideas on running costs
