Don't have a clue, the Spa spec cars would be simular I suppose, If they were at the back of the field they must have slow drivers, or as you say, a poor spec

The highest-spec Z3 was, if I remember correctly, a "mere" 2.5 litre (can't remember if there was a 2.9 or 3 litre or not, I think there was, actually). but the Z3 had the "E36" prefix of the 3-series introduced in 1990 (the E30 and E21's were so much nicer...), so it was old technology at best, with loads of complications such as weight to make it into a roadster. The ZM coupe was their chance to have a mess around and get everything right, I guess. Plus there's the M-Power logos on the ZM, always a good sign.

All I say is I hope there's a new version of the ZM which incorporates the Z4 rather than the Z3.... bung an old M5 engine or another big V8 and yer sorted...

by the way I do like the "bobnouveau" lol - my username on here does in fact have no meaning whatsoever because I'm not called Bob, but hey you gotta love being random

Funny, I was wondering recently if anyone was racing a Z4 anywhere.

I was under the impression that the Z3 used the same semi-trailing arm (thanks, Google!) rear suspension as the E30 (and of course E36 Compacts) not the more advanced 'Z-Link' rear end as found the glorious Z1 and cooking E36 models.

Does the M Coupe (and indeed the M Roadster) still use E30 setup or did they graft in the Z-links?

Also, Was the Lotus Europa also widely known as 'The Breadvan' or was that just our household?

Expect news to be released shortly about a British GT contender that won't be racing this season. Unfortunately, the news will break via another forum and not even dsc are aware.

I have just seen on DSC that Project X team is to delay its plans to race a MG SV-R in the GT3 class of British GT until 2006.

What a shame, as people may or may not I am hugh MG fan and I would have loved to see this fantastic car race. Oh well it give me something to look forward to in 2006.

Not too sure which components the Z3 shared with the E30. Find it disturbing to hear they took parts from the E36 compact car... what a horrific car that was. I've seen better looking bread bins (which have been mangled).

I'd like to see a racing Z4. It's a major advancement over the Z3 in all possible areas, it would go great in British GT's GT3 class

According to this weeks Autosport Peter Seldon is planning on entering a few British GT races with his BMW M3 GTR. This car has a 4.9 litre V8, producing 430+ bhp, so should be fairly rapid.

I don't think a V8 powered M3 is legal in Brit GTs

I bow to your superior knowledge. Someone had better tell Peter Seldon !!!! And Autosport !! How dare they excite me with false rumour. Still, it will definately be in Britcar, which i believe will go from strength to strength this year, especially with the carrot of a 24 hour race in there. This is a great series, with Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, Marcos, etc. Worth a look IMO. Oh, and a Ford Falcon V8 supercar.

Can anyone give me more details about the regs for the GT championship and where it states V8 powered M3s can't compete ?

That will be interesting for the new road-going standard M3, which will have a V8 in it!

Matt.

Thinking about it, there are plenty of V8's in British GT. Corvette, Ferrari 360, Ultima, Monaro etc. Why is the BMW not allowed ???

Because there isn't a road car BMW M3 V8 - I know for a fact that another similar car has been turned down

Ok, thanks. Do you know who's car that was that was turned down ?

But they did produce road-going M3-GTRs...that's how they were homologated for the ALMS. And would that situation change when they produce the new M3 anyway, which is a V8 ?

The point regarding the ALMS was that BMW never did produce the road cars. The M3 GTR was homologated on the understanding that a certain number of V8-engined road cars would be produced, but they never were.

I know there was some controversy over GTRs in ALMS....and they may not have produced the correct numbers for homologation...but they did produce road cars! I'm confused!!

The answer to the first question is yes - I've had a lengthy conversation with them but as they are still trying to get another car into the championship I'm not saying any more about which team it is.

As for the new car being a V8 I guess the answer there is probably that this will be OK as soon as the relevant number of cars has been built

Excellent news for the British GT championship to be found here. http://www.crash.net/uk/en/news_view...=11&nid=106738 This will surley boost the exposure that the series has gotten in recent seasons and in turn will no doubt help the series in attracting bigger crowds and hopefully more sponsorship. Good to see crash.net getting behind what is IMO the best British motorsport series in the UK.
