Marshall & Frazer Motor
It originally used an Imp block , but cut off at main bearing deck level , and with a flange welded on to mate it to the Mini gearbox . It used an Imp head , but with the timing chain housing lopped off , and the cam belt-driven .
Later , because of the huge amount of work that went into altering an Imp block to suit , they cast up their own block , which made matters very much simpler . It still used Imp-ish rods , pistons , valves , camshafts , and so on , and retained its Imp-based head . |

Well i will attach a picture of the original car which the father bought in around 1974 from Brendan O'Mahoney who had bought the car from David Hall ,it was belived to be an x fraser imp with 5speed jk box and 998 on twin 38 webers. The 1st race was the park i think in 74 or 75 and the drive coupling broke his 2nd race was dundrum which he won ,he then lightened the car by cutting the roof panel out and replaced it with a sheet of alloy and the doors as well up until St Patricks day in 1980 when the trailer broke and the car and trailer hit the bank at Barberstown castle and bent the floor pan so we got another shell. While we were building the new car he drove the Motorola/Irish times imp which was owned by Jim Barber . The new car was fitted with rawlson panels and the old man got me to Tig weld the semi spaceframe in that he had designed .I remember his 1st outing with the car he was flying only to be taken out by 1 of the dempsey brothers one of those things that happen out on track.Any way the car was quick out of the box and to date the old man still holds the lap record at Mondello for upto 1350 mod saloons or gts as they called then by the time he gave up he had won quiet a few races in the old girl .The car sat in the garage until i was given it

Shafts & stuff
Andy,
Give Bob Dayson a ring he'll make an unbreakable shaft for you and at a reasonable price. As the engine & box aren't mounted together (Busa & Hewland !) there isn't a real need for the gearbox casing. Just a lightweight frame to take the suspension pickups. You wouldn't need a chain just a drive flange from the Busa to a short prop and direct to an oil filled diff casing. This could be solidly mounted to the said frame. Electric reverse is a piece of cake. Just done one in my mini for £40 ! Davy ps if you haven't got Bob's number e-mail me and I'll give you it. Have just completed the Mini spaceframe rebuild and have just sold it. About to start on the Stiletto but will be racing the elise again. I know your brothers mini is quicker but I am going on a diet !!!! Last edited by megapin; 26 Feb 2009 at 18:19. |

Not with someone your size behind the wheel lol sorry couldnt resist that one
To be fair i stood at the start line and watched you fire off down to Old Hall last season and it fired off the line ! Your gearing is real close together or thats how it sounds while watching. Can and do you ever change the ratio's ? |

Just out of interest how come you have made those changes then ?
One thing that always gets me thinking is why people buy or build the cars they have. This must be one of the most difficult things to decide in the respect of handeling. There must big a huge differences in the different cars. How do you feel your car goes as its pretty small compared to some of the others you compete against. |

i bought the suzuki because i love special saloons when i went to look at it obviously there was no test drive i new it was tight in the cockpit it wasn t till i got it to cadwell that i realised that i coudn t get in a comfortable driving position with the peddles and steering wheel in the middle and the seat on the **** and my head up against the rollcage
im pretty shaw now im comfy in it ill be able to peddle it a lot faster. its light less than 500kg with 210bhp but its got a short wheel base which make it very twitchy and hard to drive on the limit i find it hard to do more than a couple of laps in it flat out the heat in the cockpit is unbelievable so vie put a scoop on the roof to try and make it bearable out of all the cars ive got its the one i like to drive the least Last edited by big andy; 22 Mar 2009 at 22:01.
