No, it was part of the drivers world championship and not run to F1 regulations. F1 cars could enter I believe but not all cars entered had to be F1 cars. None were. In this period no person achieved points in the Indy 500 and any other drivers world championship race and couldn't possibly have done so.. Only after 1960 the drivers world championship was renamed Formula 1 world championship.
