Caltex Racing has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
V8 driver, team and series announcements in store.

A fortnight after the conclusion of the 2006 V8 Supercar Championship Series, and already several announcements appear in the pipeline with several rumours firming up in the media this week.

Fujtisu Racing looks set to announce Adam Macrow and Simon Wills as the joint drivers of the #26 BFII Falcon after Motorsport News Australia reported the move. This comes after a Crash.net Exclusive revealed that several drivers were being considered for the move shortly after the Caterpillar Grand Finale – Macrow revealed as one of the candidates.

The same Australan magazine has also reported that Fabian Coulthard will become the full time driver of the #39 Team Sirromet Wines Commodore next year, after running in it during the 2006 season. Coulthard, a Holden Young Lion, will drive a VY Commodore for the majority of next year's championship before an update to a VE model at the end of the season.

Dick Johnson Racing looks set to take to the 2007 championship with a new major backer after Australian News Corporation sources reported that Jim Beam is likely to replace Dick Johnson's companies as naming rights sponsor, going head to head in the championship with rival brand Jack Daniel's – which sponsors the Perkins Motorsport entries in both V8 leagues. In a move that is set to re-invigorate the Queensland based team, Steven Johnson and Will Davison now appear likely to both be on the grid next year. An official announcement is expected shortly.

"We've been saved by the skin of our teeth," said Team Manager Steve Chalker to The Adelaide Advertiser

"It's too early to say anything officially but we've done a deal that guarantees we will be on the grid next year.

"We're not in a position to do anything just yet but early in the New Year we plan to have an official launch."

Jim Beam has also been announced as official Bourbon sponsor of the championship, with an announcement today confirming that the company will become a major sponsor of the series and hold the rights to pour at all championship events, excluding the Bahrain championship round in 2007, starting with the Clipsal 500 Adelaide from March 1-4.

Who would know. You would expect they would need to bring sponsor dollars but unless you saw the contracts it would be pure speculation (not to many drivers are keen to be honest if asked that question).

you cant lock in 24 Garh Walden Holden as that number does not belong to the franchise. the No 11 or the no 7 belongs to the franchise, so as a rsult you cant lock in larrys numbers either

You can change the number at the beginning of the year. If i'm not mistaken you apply for your numbers at beginning of year and if there is no conflict they are given to them. As far as i know the history of the number the team uses takes preference over anything else.

As far as I understand the system, the tyres associated with the Romano franchise need to be sent to Walden Motorsport and Larry should get the tyre bank of the ex. Larkham Level 1 franchise from TEGA which means the tyres have been stored and not used for over 12 months (if in fact they still exist).

Confirmed

Ford Performance Racing Media Release

STEVE RICHARDS RETURNS TO FORD WITH FPR IN 2007

January 1, 2007 - Ford Performance Racing (FPR) is delighted to formally
announce that highly experienced V8 Supercar driver Steve Richards will
return to Ford in 2007 and has signed a long term contract to drive for the
Prodrive team.

Richards, 34, replaces Jason Bright who left the team at the completion of
the 2006 season. Richards was the seventh placed driver in the 2006
Championship and has been a regular V8 Supercar contender for ten seasons.
Richards has forged a solid reputation during this time for his
uncompromising speed, technical knowledge and consistency.

The new FPR Falcon driver's career has included no fewer than twelve
Bathurst 1000 campaigns, with Richards racing to the top step of the Mount
Panorama podium on two occasions in both 1998 & 1999. Richards' detailed
motor racing resume also includes two second places and one third place
finish at Bathurst, along with many successes in other motor racing
categories including Super Touring, Super Speedway and Formula Ford.

Richards is excited to be returning to Ford with the marque's major V8
Supercar team at this major point in the team's development.

"It is terrific to be joining a team that is clearly on the rise following
the speed that FPR displayed during the 2006 season. Mark Winterbottom's
results in 2006 mirror FPR's and I am sure we can make a formidable
combination that will continue developing FPR's front running form in 2007.
It is a special time to be joining this team and I cant wait to get behind
the wheel of the FPR Falcons at our first test day. There is no settling in
period and the intention is to get the new season started on the pace with
FPR at the Clipsal 500."

According to FPR Commercial Director Rod Barrett, FPR has secured a major
asset in Steve Richards for the next five years.

"After more than 12 months of negotiations, FPR is absolutely thrilled to
welcome Steve to the team as it heads towards its most important season yet
in 2007. Steve will add great value to the team and is one of the most
competitive and accomplished drivers in the series. We look forward to
watching Steve and the team challenge for the V8 Supercar titles in 2007 -
beginning with Adelaide in March."

Five years! And this contract is with Prodrive, rather than Ford, by the sounds of it? Meaning that if they go to Toyota some time between now and 2012, that Richo could become a Toyota driver?

Presuming Prodrive are still here in 5 years..

At least it finally confirms the seat

So when will we see Todd Kelly announced into the lead JDR seat? And perhaps not Shane Price into the second seat?
