Some potential scenarios and championship table as a result:

- Alonso disqualified from Singapore results:

1) Hamilton - 100 pts
2) Massa - 97 pts
3) Raikkonen/Kubica - 75 pts

- Renault disqualified from all races:

1) Hamilton - 104 pts
2) Massa - 102 pts
3) Raikkonen/Kubica - 82 pts

- Singapore results wiped from championship:

1) Massa - 97 pts
2) Hamilton - 92 pts
3) Raikkonen/Kubica - 75 pts

What are the rules on changing results after long periods of time? The only real precedents for this are Tyrrell in 84 and Benetton at Spa in 88

These are the penalties applicable to article 151 of the sporting code.

− reprimand (blame);
− fines;
− time penalty;
− exclusion;
− suspension;
− disqualification.

"For the FIA Formula One World Championship and the FIA
World Rally Championship, a penalty consisting of the withdrawal
of points over the whole of the Championship may be imposed."

Not sure if removing points is going to hurt too much,unless of course you also have to return the money that you received for winning them.

Whatever may be done with points, it won't affect the points of other teams and drivers - see McLaren's exclusion from the Constructors' title a couple of years ago.

Just read "Dodgy Business" on the Autosport website, interesting comments about professional fouls in many sports, you 'ave to larf!

The list in F1 is, like any serious sport quite long and some are funny as well as unsporting but recent decisions by the Stewards and WMC lead us to speculate on the outcome as we are doing here.

How about the time when Damon looked like beating Alain at Silverstone and set a few fastest laps in his Williams Renault before his engine blew, much to the dismay of the rather partisan crowd. In those days radio communication between pit/paddock and car was very sophisticated and engine management was taken care of from a (Renault) truck in the paddock. So far as I recall there was no enquiry into the incident, how times have changed.

Come to think of it, who was it that had the distribution rights for Renault F1 engines at the time?

The thing is, stuff like this has happened before in motorsport, perhaps not as planned as this, but what about Russell Spence stalling on purpose at the start of the F3 race at Birmingham? Not that I am condoning or defending Renault here, but at what point do you say thats not acceptable. M Schumacher got the book thrown at him at Monaco 2006 when he attempted to do a "fake crash" in order to manipulate the results in his favour, the result? Thrown to the back of the grid for that race.

I really do wonder what the FIA plan to do with this.

Spence did it for his own benefit, it seems to be prevalent in US racing as well, but this is an interesting one. Teams orders (which are allegedly banned) to the extreme.

It's difficult to prove that someone stalls on purpose or loses control of their car on purpose.But when people conspire to do these things then that's a different ball-game.Then you need to do something.
