Try to book the Monday off work, so that you can stay over on Sunday night and have a well-deserved ****-up!

Thing is - if enough people volunteer, then there will be chance to rotate , ie get some sleep. I believe that each "team" arrange between themselves. Don't depend on the fog rolling in.

Remember that the full race day ahead of the 24hr race starting is what finances it. It ain't ideal, but - if that's what it takes.....

Not spoken to Alan yet about this year's event but presume we'll be doing normal "deliveries".. - I know they are appreciated.

PS - Should deliveries take place, I'll try to remember where Brooklands is!

thanks for any info received
A (hopefully) more sensible reply to my previous: you will be issued with a hi-vis tabard to make you more obvious in the dark and I believe that the incident guys are issued with torches (either hand-held or on a headband).

Any way, I would suggest that you make sure you have a torch with you - if only for finding the way to the Loo!!!!!

As we know that Silverstone is short-manned, if you have a portable gas stove & kettle (plus coffee/tea & mugs/sugar/spoons/milk) then make sure you take it with you. I can guarantee you'll be popular - if only by me doing my rounds in the dark!!

Otherwise, an incident is an incident, in the dark or light - but in the dark you must be more aware of the traffic as they are less likely to see you (despite the tabard). Also, if there is something like oil down - both you and the drivers are unlikely to see it, so anything could happen. Just take the normal 100% care that you would take but multiply it by at least 2. My experience on the track in the dark comes from Le Mans - but there is usually more lighting than at Silverstone.

Otherwise, just enjoy the experience of doing a 24 hour race. It is something else entirely.

Good advice, and as to the oil, drivers were complaining bitterly about the oil at stowe last year, but how do you dress something you cant see! Drivers dont seem to get that.

Its so dark that if its clear you can see satellites overhead if you look at the right time!

True. I shall rephrase....

Volunteer through Silverstone ES - Incident
Volunteer through any other source (BRSCC EERC) - Flag.

Thanks for the replies so far,
incident or flag, not bothered to which i do, but i applied to Pam at silverstone.
Pie deliveries early of the morning, now that sounds a darn good idea.
Now all depending what post we`ll be on,the cooker ain`t a problem as we got a 2 ring gas camping cooker,so even bacon butties are always on the menu and the wife is always willing to do her bit and help feed the troops.

The staying up bit doesn`t bother me,but the wife needs her sleep and we booked off the Monday & Tuesday off work.

But being sober on a sat night, now thats something i could never train for....

Hi All,
The first race of the Britcar season is at Silverstone International on the 22nd March. This event is being organised by the EERC. We are looking for volunteers in all duties, if you are available please contact either Pam Dearn at Silverstone, use the EERC form on www.marshals.org.uk or contact me.
Thanks,
Julian

Maybe they could invite 5th Gear to race in a similar car, winner takes all.

I'd like to see Clarkson's face when VBH gives him a good thrashing, on the track I mean.
