There's a small peice on Andy Neate in this week's Autosport. It explains about the accident breifly, and his recovery, which are both detailed here.
But it goes onto say... 'Despite his recovery, he [Andy] has decided not to race again. "I can't race any more because of my neck injury - I can't take the risk," said Neate, who has no recollection of the crash. "Motorsport is my life but this put things into perspective. I have a wife and two children and this is a reality check." The 34 year old thanked all those who have supported him since the crash. "I've got to thank all the safety crews and the marshals," He said. "I'm also overwhelmed by the support. I've had hundreds and hundreds of cards, some from people I've never met, and it really touched me."' |

Sad news, but perfectly understandable.
I wish Andy (and Sara) all the best in the future. Maybe you'd like to come and join us for some marshalling, or even the rescue crew. Take care, Nick. |

Could we respect the OP's wishes that we don't get into a debate and go into cause and effect on this thread. You are more than welcome to start another thread for that.
Thanks. BTW, I've removed some post that are now here. Last edited by Tim Falce; 1 Nov 2008 at 13:40. |

from Andy:-
It’s of immense relief I’m here to type this message (albeit at bit of a struggle) and am able to say hi to you all. It’s difficult to know where to start but I must attempt to begin to thank you all for all the unbelievable kind words of support that have been posted. I have read through the messages left and they have touched me deeply, I have been totally overwhelmed. The past eight weeks since the accident have been the hardest weeks of my life but nowhere near as hard as they have been for my amazing wife Sara, she has been truly amazing. There was a time the medical team were not sure if I would pull through but she held it all together for my two young children that were missing their dad. I would like to also thank you all for assisting in her strength, your words of kindness gave her an extra sense of belief. I must also thank my sister Sarah-Jane especially and family and friends for their support. Although it’s unlikely that I will meet you all it would give me so much pleasure to shake each and every one of you by the hand, if you ever see me at the track or elsewhere please say hi so I can thank you personally. Talking of the track it is extremely unlikely you will see me behind the wheel again, due to the injuries I sustained my body won’t take to kindly the inevitable crash that will happen here and there. Motor racing is in my blood and it hurts me to accept I will no longer compete in the sport that so nearly took my life but that’s the way it is, sadly I was shortly going to make an announcement the BTCC with a leading team was my destination for 2009 but on reflection my survival puts things into perspective. Once again Thank-you all so much, I also would like to thank all the marshals, rescue team, air ambulance and doctors etc, I will be grateful forever. Best Andy Neate |

As you have seen from the posts you are a well respected and liked man and family around the national racing scene and all the racers and teams have been hoping and praying you would recover from the accident. Andy,
It's great to hear from you, you've done such a remarkable job of recovery. You and Sara will always have a place in our hearts, she must be a real star and I'm glad we were of help to her, I wish we could have done more. I would love to shake both of your hands, but meanwhile I wish you all the best and have a Nick. |

Andy,
Just watched the 24Hr coverage and SO, SO pleased to see the interview at the end. You obviously have a very strong constitution to have made such good progress in such comparatively little time. All the best for the continued recovery and how wonderful to be able to address this to you personally. And I hope Sara realises just how much people like myself have been so impressed by her obvious strength and capability in trying circumstances. You are a lucky bloke in more than one sense. All the best and hope to see you around at the circuits next year. I'm sure you could use the marshals forum to blag as many "spare" tickets as you like!!! Shelagh & Bill |

Andy, it's great to see you able to post a reply. As you say, things like this put everything else into perspective.
Good luck to you and Sara for your future and hope to see you around the circuits some day. You could always come and join us orange idiots. It's a bit safer our side of the barriers! |
