In my 1988 BTCC entry list at the Birmingham Superprix, it was listed as Dave Loudoun for CHMS. But in the Motoring News article, it mentions of Nick Whale just making through qualifying for the race.
I think we decided it was Whale- as you said, he's mentioned in the MN report, I think it looks like his name on the door, and 'Central BMW' (on the sunstrip) were one of his sponsors.

It would be interesting to see the official entry list though...

Another Endurance Racer, I read all about the history of this car some time back but it has since slipped my mind, Spa is ringing bells though.

I pretty sure these cars were in fact from German Georg Alber, with Charouz likely to have provided the Marlboro backing. Years later he was hill climbing a Sierra RS500 in the same color scheme.

For a considerable time this Corolla was a mystery only having Japanese result tables to look at. A glimpse of the car at YouTube identified it as a Corolla, but this picture provide clear evidence, so thank you.
Never seen the Skyline before, but this actually dates the picture to 1986.

Jesper
That sounds fairly likely- Alber was usually amongst the drivers as I remember

Why? I have seen a few of your pictures before but the rest is new to me, and those Japanese series pictures are intriguing. But I rarely know what I'm looking at or what year of what race, so it will take a bit of time before I have a reaction to your pictures.

Keep 'em coming. The above picture features what is probably the longest committed of the Japanese Group A teams - the #25 Advan Toyota. Keiichi Tsuchiya was I believe the driving force behind this team, entering cars throughout the nine seasons of Group A racing in Japan. Behind you have the #16 VW Golf GTI of which I only have one race - Round 3 of the 1985 AJTCC. Auto Lager Schmidt being the name I'm told.

Please don't stop! As Jesper said, the Japanese Group A scene is the one we know least about- I've never seen a lot of these cars before. The Object T/Trampio car I recognise (white/blue #12) from an old Fujimi 1/24 kit I built about 20 years ago- think we've mentioned it earlier in the thread, came in 2 versions, white/blue and white/green

Looking at those pics, theres something interesting about the Trampio paintscheme- if you look at the doors, behind the race numbers, there's a large patch of very small writing (towards the back edge of the door, just ahead of those red crosses that have been marked on the pic) If I remember correctly, it was something like a piece of poetry- not something you see every day on a touring car...

the picture by Eircamae86 is definitely the wellington 500. if I remember correctly, it is 1988 and the AE82 in the background is probably the Toyota Team Australia car. At that time they had 2, so its unclear which one that is. Both cars survive, so I'll check with their respective owners.

Keiichi Tsuchiya , met him a few years ago, now more famous as the Drift King with his green driving gloves & D1 Drifting Main man, used to be anyway. Havent exactly been following it.
He still owns an ae86 20v Trueno Road car.

1987. The car in the background has the name Lester on the windscreen. Does not look like the Aussie fwd cars.

Knowing that "a formerAE86" Touring car star was drifting but didn't realise it was Tsuchiya!
