If he didn't have a big ego we would never have heard of him and BES wouldn't exist.

Does Ratel not get it? People/drivers who fund GT teams are not able to race outside of Europe due to a lack of finance, the only way to get them to go is to supplement travel or offer prize money at a level which will allow them to recoup the costs. Unless Ratel will stump up the prize money or travel money, then he has to raise it via sponsors (which are very difficult to find) and/or ticket sales which outside of Europe are almost non existent.
Racing for a world title in a world championship is all well and good but that alone is not going to persuade people to part with large amounts of money. FIA WEC gets away with it because 1. If you enter you get an automatic Le Mans entry which is very attractive to drivers, team owners and sponsors with money. 2. Manufacturers running works cars which attracts alot more media attention. and 3. Because of the popularity of the Le Mans 24 Hours fans follow the fortunes of entrants of the race throughout the season. Ratel should concentrate on BES, ADAC masters, British GT and the French GT championship, its what the market wants, you can see that in the grid sizes. Promoters of the big championships need to swallow their pride and work together. |

I thought you people were sports car fans. if you were, you would know that logic has never been part of planning for sports car series.
Ratel is simply following the basic sports car formula--stumble across something really good and screw it up. |

I completely lack the ability to understand all the GT3 racing in the world, but I enjoy it, so I guess I'll just regard this all as wonderful.

You are right. Actually this thread is pretty much over, season has ended, championship is done for good. Not really too much to talk about here. If someone wants to start a new thread to discuss the new SRO championship be my guest. But let's let this thread die like the GT World Championship has.

I think what ratel is doing is grabbing the most powerfull bes teams to GT world, and single car or less powerfull run Blancpain. Quote:

Was not going to be a international label like "World series"? I'm not sure neither SRO Sprint Series or BSS. |

Think if they wanted to pay for sponsoring it they'd have paid for Blancpain Sprint Series to keep some symmetry to help in selling both series to team sponsors. Has to be easier to build up teams with a sprint series option before building a strong enough team to go to the enduros and cheaper, even if only slightly.

Sheesh. Why not appoint a few of the already existing GT3 races around the globe to be points eligiable for a world title? Spa, Dubai, Bathurst, Nürburgring, Pau, you name it. GT3's race practically everywhere.

Naw, the sprint series is going to be dovetailing with BES and together the two will form the FIA GT World Series. Teams can either run one or both series.

How is different from FIA GT1 World Championship, again? Sanctioning fee discount for not using the word 'championship'?
