Very interesting - horrid weather - but the video does illustrate how it can be bright and sunny in one place on the circuit and raining torrentially at another. I think we drove around Indianapolis and Arnage quicker in James' vintage Camry earlier in the week......

i am not sure James will appreciate you calling his pride and joy vintage it is not even in the classic bracket. But i must agree with you about the different weather on te track at the same time it makes it very difficult for us fans to know what to wear

Actually, having re-watched the video, I think that the #2 was probably on some form of intermediate tires--be it the slick or treaded intermediates, I don't know. I'm basing this on the car having pitted before the rainstorm, so it could've had some form of intermediate tires on.
But judging by the car's handling/grip issues for the chicane and how it only found any real grip on the hard shoulder, and by the intensity of the rain, even full on wets might have been barely adequate at speed. No matter the tire tread patterns, the #2 Audi sorta got lucky there, considering the huge accident that happened just a few hundred yards behind while it was trying to avoid spinning out and the carnage that already happened at the first chicane. Who ever was in the car (I'm thinking that the time of that happening it was Andre or Ben), they could hardly keep it straight on the straightaway. |

Oh he can take a joke at his expense - and I said 'vintage', no mention of classic! In any case, it has served us well for the last 5 years!

in the old car world there are age limits on what is classified as Vintage and to some extent the same for classic cars, the normally accepted vintage range is 1919 to 1939 with veteran prior to that, Classic is a little less precise but usually at least 20 years old. Not even you come into Veteran but i think we both fall into the classic category
