Jamie G should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
So where would you all say the natural home of the ex-Super Coupe cars is now? I am interested in getting the CRX racing against some of its contemporaries again.

I am not 100% sure but I believe the inclusion of the CRX in pre-93's was discussed and was deemed OK (JohnW will confiirm I am sure) if so well there you go thats the place to run it.

Of the former Super Coupe Cup cars, there are at least 2 CRX & a Rover 216 in the CSCC's "Tin Tops" series. There has also been a Proton which, I think, was a Super Coupe Cup car (?). The CRX's, in particular, are very competitive in their class. An ideal home for them, and 2 driver events are good fun and an opportunity to share costs!

Yeah I liked the look of the Tintops at Brands. Same eligibility issues though I think...

Jamie

Not sure what you mean about eligibility issues. CSCC Tin Tops has very few regulations (apart from the obvious MSA safety related ones) and I think that I am right in saying that, basically, if you have a tin top up to 2 litres (no sequential boxes) with the same type of engine installed as original then you should be able to find a class to run in. For eg I have a Fiat Uno which is soon to have a 1600 SOHC engine in it - Fiat did not build a production 1600 Uno in the EU but its allowed as its the sam e type of SOHC engine.

During a particularly motivated moment at work I stumbled across a Rover 220 'Tomcat' turbo on eBay. Item number 160133129989

Comes with an original shell and he mentions an unlisted amounts of parts.

Thought it or the parts may be of interest as they appear to be quite rare now.

I asked a well known Tomcat racer about that, said it looked like the race car had been reshelled into a road car and you get the original shell. SO I didn't progress my interest in that any further

Of course we could both have been wrong

Have now picked up a Rover 216GTi to use for the rest of my season

I knew of a 'Taylor Pitstop' car that was in that blue but as you say if the original shell is for sale it may have been built into a road registered car.

What happened to your Lancia? Have fun with the Rover.

Broke the Lancia last time out with the DMN! A conrod let go, nice hole in the side of the block. Going to cost a few bob to build (yet) another engine so bought the Rover so I can still get a few races in

Had a look at the ad. As the owner of a genuine Tomcat I'm inclined to agree that it looks like it has been reshelled into a road car. If it's a genuine Tomcat shell it will have been stitch welded, different top links on the rear suspension and reinforcing plates welded onto the rear trailing arms, bracing across the top and bottom rear suspension mounts plus the lip on the front turrets ground away to permit 4 degrees of negative. Nothing that you couldn't do to another shell admittedly but would someone bother?

Also a genuine Tomcat engine has solid, not hydraulic lifters - rather difficult to tell at a casual glance though.

Thing is if the genuine shell is available and in good condition, why bother?

Have since spoken to my pal who went and bought that car (and the shell). His original diagnosis appears to be correct, the multicolour shell is the original race shell but an attempt was made to convert to a road car. Needs a fair bit of TLC but he hopes to have the car up and running fairly quickly - a lot easier when you have a garage full of spares I guess - but might well put in all back into the race shell again. Apparently the race shell is mint

I bought the car Doing a trackday at Dono on the 29th July.

It is a proper Tomcat Racer.

Mark, I have James Thorpes old Pits stop Tomcat, and my mate Dave has the other Pits stop (Mark Taylors) still with its stickers on.

Sorry I didn't reply before I have only just seen this post. As mentioned elsewhere I did buy Steve's car but all that was salvageable was the mechanical components. No problem as that was what I wanted.

The shell was beyond repair. More or less every panel was bent and it appeared to be twisted. All I got from it was a front wing and the rear spoiler. I stripped all of the mechanicals, electrics, cage etc. and the shell then went off to the breakers.

I have rebuilt the engine and now have the complete drive train from Steve's car in my Tomcat. The remaining bits are gradually finding their way onto the one that my brother is building from a part prepared road car that he bought.

What size engines did the Proton Coupe Cup cars have in them? Were they 1600 or 1800?
