Only just got round to sorting my post from the past week, and quite surprised to get a yes seeing the number of "No Thanks" that are about!

Still, with my birthday the Monday after - perhaps they're trying to encourage the party atmosphere?

I also received my no thanks letter yesterday, but not surprised as it was my first attempt and have been told it can take several applications before being selected.
However,I am really astonished at the number of other better qualified people such as Nadine,Fazza and Elliot that have also been rejected.
But on a more positive note that now opens us up to do the Legends at Oulton Park, what a great consolation prize.
Congatulations to all that have been selected.

As many of you have correctly surmised there were a very large number of volunteers this year for incident marshalling duties.

The selection panel (made up of the chiefs of each duty) met last week.

The MSA have no powers over the number of marshals for the GP - this is dictated by the FIA/FOCA and there were over 100 more volunteers for incident than there are positions.

The panel had to decide who would be successful and I understand agreed on the criteria to be used (and NO I do not know what they were).

Flag marshals were bang on the nail I believe and there was one (!) vacancy amongst the Observers.

So, my condolances for those who wanted to do the meeting and were not successful.

It wil be interesting to see what happens for 2010.

Ditto. I've scheduled for a better race meeting that weekend - so it's off to Brands!

Seems like a heck of a lot of OP regulars got rejected. Nevermind, the Legends will certainly wipe any frowns off your faces

There will be even more "no thanks" letters?

Be interesting to know what the "criteria to be used" was! Freedom of information act request?

Damn, and there's me volunteering for incident as I figured I'd be more likely to get in, despite slightly favouring flag.

Still, mustn't grumble. I guess I'll be off to Brands that weekend, unless there are any guest passes going spare *wink* *wink*

Cant believe how many no's there has been, I know a few ppl i know were told not to apply as their 12 days included 3 days at the GP last year. We were instructed that these days will not be considered in your application!

I did 43 days last year (about 20 on incident) but it was my first season, so I'm guessing that's why I was counted out.

Would now be a good time to ask why we're volunteering for incident or flag anyway - surely with the new grading, we're all experienced marshals and should therefore rotate around the post doing incident and flag etc!
