I've done exactly that in the past Jon, worked quite well.
Will be staying in a Travelodge Friday and Sunday night. Sleeping in the car, near the post, Saturday.

Lol, that made me laugh

Bed down one side of the car, plus a lovely set of stripey curtains!

As it looks like the weather is set pretty fair, and the temps should be high enough to keep fog away, when was the last dry 24 hr? certainly the last 4 or 5 have been wet/foggy enough to use safety car for long periods, what difference will it make if every one is at race pace all the time, possibly more mechanical woes?

it was dry that weekend as i was on copse, but i do believe the safety car was out for fog, but i don't think it was stopped..
been on nights this week, temp around 15 - 20 deg, been some fog around but patchy.
so now looking forward to a weekend for pure fun

I know we're in the South West and so it might not be the same as Silverstone, but we have been having bad fog of a morning, which burns off by about 8am.

Hoping it isn't going to get too foggy, though have packed most of my wardrobe for layers just in case.

I'm 80 miles east of Silverstone (by road), and we've had stinking hot sunshine for 2 days.

08 the last one before the 500 year was indeed warm and fog free. Was certainly cold in the stands early hours of Sunday morning though.

Don't need to worry about splitters. There's a genny in the middle of the campsite and there appears to be plenty of hookups

Well the bug I had has gone away just in time, the car is ready to be packed, I'm woefully unprepared as usual, and I even found the whistle I needed last weekend at the bottom of my box

Think that might have been from the Smart Car championship that's also running this weekend.

Just leaving the circuit and heard that the lengthy safety car period was due to a marshal being clouted while attending a stricken vehicle.

Suspected broken leg (apparently). So, I wish whoever it was that was hit a speedy recovery.

No marshals = no racing.

The Smart in the 24 hr race is an orange ForFour and is currently in 35th place, 38 laps off the lead. 58 starters.

The Smart in the photo was from yesterdays qualifying session for the Smart Cup race, it somersaulted...

I'm hearing reports of this too, I hope the Marshal involved isn't too badly hurt and makes a speedy recovery.

Stay safe people.

Britcar David should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
At approximately 9:45pm there was an incident during the Britcar 24hr race at Silverstone where a competing vehicle left the road and collided with another vehicle. A trackside marshal was struck during the incident.
The marshal in question has been transferred to Northampton Hospital with a suspected broken leg. They also have cuts and bruises but no life threatening injuries.
This statement was received by Britcar 24hr Ltd. via the BRSCC from Silverstone circuit Chief Medical Officer.

Thoughts with the casualty, but also with their team who must have dealt with "one of our own" and then kept on doing the job we love.

meanwhile.. a thorough investigation of how this happened should be underway.
Local yellows or SC deployed when it happened?
