Cosworth Laying off
Apparently there laying off staff due to the new rules in engines meaning there not having to build as many. also the loss of being a supplier to Williams means times are tough...

Well, since it's not official that they're supplying anyone next year in F1, that could get worse

Isn't Cosworth seemingly Midland's only option?

Cause and effect. One of the effects of the brainless engine freeze rules of Bernie/Max -- layoffs and unemployment. I saw numbers as high as 40% being laid off. How many employees is that, and how many people when you include their families, are being hurt by Bernie/Max?

Bring back those thousand horsepower qually engines.Bring back the V12's and V10's. Pit stops that include an engine change. And let there be grids of thirty cars.Let it rain engines! *sung to strains of "Hallelujah!" in background*

... and needs blokes in full armour and chemical protection to fuel the cars.... Very sad news about Cosworth however, presumably the ChampCar developments cant be helping this situation either (running the same motor for several seasons now...) |

I understand that next season will see them using a more contemporary car rather than the early 90's chassis they have now.Not sure about the engines though.A V10 would be nice. |

It's sad to see the jobs go at Cosworth, but that's Max's vision of F1 for you!
My record is cracked on this matter, the needle keeps going back to the start.... Homogonised engines - that's not F1. In fact most of the restrictions brought about in the last 10-15 years have been not F1, but knee jerk reactions to the march of technology. I will say it again. The best way to restrict the power/speed of a F1 car is to restrict the amout of fuel that can be used for the race. I haven't seen the regs for a long while, it used to be 200Litres for a race, but I think that refuelling changed that. It should be cut to 150 litres, no refuelling for Gasoline - which would be purchased by a FIA delegate at a roadsde filling station at random. Bio-ethanol cars could have 220litres, and bio-diesels get 125 litres. Other than that, as many or as few cylinders, or rotors (let's bring rotaries in!) as you like. Any capacity you like. The car must weigh no less than 650kg with driver, and no fuel (what so ever). Aerodynamics - free - but wings must be solidly fixed : no moveable aerodynamic parts (weights on springs are not aerodynamic!) Bodywork - free, but no enclosed cars. All cars to have self starters, H-gate gearboxes with three pedal systems (clutch/brake/accellerator). All races to be 200miles or 2hrs whichever the shortest. --------------- Because the fuel will be taken from a random source, fuel companies would have to up their game in the market place!! By restricting the calorific intake of the engine, adding more downforce creates more drag, requires more horsepower, drink more fuel, and since that's limited, it levels things out. So how would you see the car? A skinny streamliner with a little engine, or a big V8 brute with little or no wing and a frugal yet raunchy engine? Rob. |

Of the 11 teams in F1, it seems all 11 teams have an engine supply sorted for next season.....
Renault Scuderia Toro Rosso - Renault (TBC) Ferrari Red Bull Racing - Ferrari (TBC) Spyker - Ferrari Honda Super Aguri - Honda Toyota Williams - Toyota McLaren - Mercedes Sauber - BMW ... one way or another. Which suggests Cosworth has nowhere to play in F1 next year Presumably if there are no deals for next year, I wonder if they will ever produce an F1 powerplant again |

Good. More time to spend building powerplants for Caterhams and rally cars.

There might be hope in supplying Prodrive. They'll be testing next year, or so you would assume, so they wouldnt have to wait untill 2008 to get an engine in the car.

However that is still a cracking engine! I can't believe a manufacturer/likely entry not currently involved in F1 hasn't snapped the firm or engine rights up to give themselves a straightforward (and with a little development) competitive powerplant for car... |

It will be sad if Cosworth aren't on the grid next year. Now here is a question when was the last time that there was not a car with a Cosworth built engine on an F1 grid?

....and until the GPMA or whatever it is bottled it and caved in to Max and co and therefore electing to stay in F1, I bet Cosworth were thinking they might be supplying a lot of teams under the low cost F1 in 2008?

Cosworth should certainly keep a programme active, at least in the background for 2008. Contact between they and Prodrive may have already taken place. It's a shame they have been scapegoated for Williams problems this season - very few have actually been engine-related.

Pretty grim news from Cosworth, no loyalty at all in F1 is there? And that is one fault with William's I would have to say.. A lack of commitment..Not a William's bash, just an observation Last edited by JeremySmith; 30 Sep 2006 at 16:42. |
