Amazing, I was getting all geared up to ask why Team Icer Brakes had been given a Le Mans entry and not one of the quicker/better teams who are running an F430, and this happens!!

Very impressive (although not as quick as Kirkaldy's time last year in the 360)!

It seems the new Courage is having a lot of teething problems: paddle shift, gear ratio, aero setup, engine. Especially the aero configuration needs further development: mainly to the front splitter and rear wing.

Jean-Marc Gounon (Courage n°13)

Spanish-Sweden Peter Sundberg is a very fast driver, and Villarroel a very experienced one. They can give a surprise more tomorrow.

Maybe they just couldn't afford to do it, running on a shoe string?
Just out of interest Repsol Honda Moto GP Team took 60 tons of freight to Qatar, just goes to show what you can take if money is not the problem.

The Porsche dominance in GT2 is coming to an end. Does anyone know when Porsche will come out with a new car (based on the 997 GT3)?

A quote from Hiroshi Youchi on Infoscourse.org suggests that winter development of the (RFH) Dome hybrid has been far less comprehensive than they'd hoped due to budgetry constraints. This seems to contradict previous statements from the company and probably doesn't bode too well for their season.

Statements at the end of last season suggested it would hit the track sometime late this year, scheduled for a debut at the beginning of next season. It was widely predicted by Porsche competitors at the time that this would be a Ferrari year.

I guess Panoz can also challenge the new Ferrari.

I had hoped that the Spyker would have improved more during the winter, but this is not the case

Apparently there are no new GT3 RSR's. J3 wrote off one car at Sebring, and rebuilt using a tub from AJR. Peterson/White Lightning apparently has a new car this year, but I heard they built it themselves.

Judging from the P cars, the track was generally slower than last years quali. Pesca was 8/10s slower and RML was 6/10s. Creation's car was 1/10 quicker than its quali last year. Does this point to something good. pesca has to be the favourite for this race given the driver line-up. In the future, the Creation hybrid is already pretty quick and may have more to come than the Pescarolo. Shame about the Radical.

Something that caught my eye btw; Spyker back on Dunlops after their Sebring-Michelin-adventure?

There was simply not as much grip. There were drops of rain falling (not quite drizzle) and not enough track temperature to get the best out of the tyres. Still, the forecast for the race seems more encouraging with the rain passing through quicker than expected.

Correct on P/WL, and from what I hear correct on the lack of '06 RSRs as well. Apparently the Seikel car is a brand new car this year, according to DSC, as Farnbacher now has their '05 chassis. I'm guessing this is just an unraced '05 chassis they obtained over the off-season though.

Just looking at the pictures on DSC (not the ones on Planet Lemans or elsewhere), it looks to be the same as the front aero on the two Cirtek chassis. I can't say it strikes me as different from the factory cars at Sebring either.

That is different from the factory cars that ran at sebring. It looks to be a variation on the 2005 LM spec car. Also if I remember right I thought they and panoz were not allowed to run there 05 spec noses again.

I've compared pictures from Istanbul and Sebring 2006 side by side, and I admit I'm not seeing any real difference. If anything, there's the slightest degree of greater concavity in the Sebring cars, but I think that is more likely to be lighting effects than any great shape difference.

It certainly is nothing like the extremely bulbous LM2005 nose aerodynamics package at all.

Just arrived at the track a few minutes ago... we counted 63 security officers just from the gate to the media center. That's more than last years specatators right?

The race has started and after taking the lead, Nic Minassian has hit trouble of some sort and is back in 5th after 7 laps. Pescarolo now leads from the Radical in 2nd!!

(In fact the Barbosa is the quickest man on the circuit at the moment!)

There are a lot of cars now pitting after only 13/14 laps so I assume it's for tyres. Lap times are coming down so the track must be drying.

(No idea where the RML Lola is! )

The RML was unfortunately involved in a starting crash. Quite alot of damage to that car.

Martin Short said the throttle stuck open on the Radical, and they spent some time fixing it.
