SPEED announcers are convinced Lapierre abandoned the car. I don't think Lapierre ever went super far away, other than to maybe talk to marshals.

Lapierre had his helmet off and was walking away on the outside of the armco - he abandoned the car (no more than 10 meters)

I get so confused with the pit exit / safety car rules. By gambling and staying out on slicks the Porsche has gained an insane amount of time over the Aston Martin
