Testing The F2001
I have noticed reports that Ferrari are still testing the F2001. Does anyone know why they are still doing that so long after it is obsolete. Is it for tyre developments, or perhaps to act as a benchmark to compare times against?

They are testing tyres. They'd probably want to test a F1-2002 but if no chassis is available at the moment a "second-hand"car is good too.
PS: If they want a benchmark test, the F1-2001 is not the best sollution. Better is to test on the same track same day with the competition... Last edited by Red; 18 Sep 2002 at 12:02. |

So even Ferrari limit there spending - by not producing enough chassis to do the testing programme

Well, I do believe that this is not a "cash-only" induced limit, but rather "time".

Cash problems... I would believe instead if you tell me they are planning to race with the F2001 in the last two races, just to provide more competition ! |

They tried the F2001's in the FIRST 2 races of the season and it didn't make much of a difference.

I dont think its a cash situation - it must be something to do with devlopment and comparison b/w the F-2002 and the F-2001. Both Burti and Badoer alternate b/w the 2 cars so its not a case of them JUST testing the F-2001...they're testing both.
