For a horrifying moment I misread the headline and thought it was "Townsville a Goner".

I really hope it falls over just like the proposed Sydney and Perth ones.

They should spend the money developing a real race track that will reduce the seriousness of car hitting walls.

Yeah they should develope a better track than the good ole paperclip..... it's either that or they re-open lakeside to the V8's. but Tony won't spend the money...

9/7/09 is a Thursday.

The original talk was to hold the race on the Queen's Birthday long weekend. Whether that means running on the Monday hasn't been revealed.

I'd certainly back a date in June or July for the race.

To be honest I was hoping that was the case.

I'll clarify my point here.

I've previously written that street circuits are novelty events. A view I retain. I was horrified because of the idea that the event had received the kybosh from the government - never a good thing.

I didn't for a moment think that the QLD government would decide to spend money on a permanent circuit and since a street race is better than no race, I was relieved that it was enabling legislation.

A proper circuit should be somewhere in the vicinity of every major population centre, even if it's primary use is education & training. A club circuit is always handy, but in this day and age it's quite feasible to build a circuit with top notch facilities. I haven't been to Hidden Valley, but I understand it's very good from a facilities point of view. You could do worse than build a track with an extra loop that only gets used for the V8 meeting, but anyway....
