Chapperall
What do you think the car would be like if Jim Hall ever built an F1 car?

Interesting. I admire the Chapperalls a lot. However their influence on F1 is debateable. Certainly there are wings, fans and ground effects that we can easily point to.
Where F1 too blind to see it as quickly? Was it just different? Whatever, they made fantastic cars. thread moved, why not visit the historic forum - it rocks! |

He did build one formula car. One of his mechanics used it in F-5000, twice I think, and had a nasty wreck. by the time it ran, its ideas had moved on.
If I remember right, it was origianlly an Indy car. |

If Jim Hall built an F1 car to-day it would look just like everyone else's because of the boringly restrictive regulations.

Was'nt the first CART ground effects car a Chapparal, and did'nt it clean up the championship. A very pretty looking car, with either Johnny Rutherford or Gordon Johncock the driver? I may be wrong so stand to be corrected....However to answer the question, it would be staggeringly bland, such are the technical regs of today as has already been mentioned. Sadly the days of originality have disappeared.

The ground-effects CART car was the John Barnard designed 2K, which Al Unser drove in it's first year, 1979, and Rutherford drove in 1980-82.
