Steel Wheel repair / straightening

I've put this on HRT but if a mod feels it needs moving, be my guest.

A friend needs some 60's & rare steel wheels straightening and restoring.

Any suggestions for specialists in the art?

It appears that Weller Wheels are still in existence. As one of few companies who ever offered after-market steel wheels maybe they could be approached to see if they can help?

When I was sponsored by Les Weller we could actually run the wheels on a big old lathe and straighten them up quite well and some we could run on the original profile tool on the rim roller.
As most of us know you can easily straighten a "pothole" bent steel rim with a decent copper hammer with the tyre still in place.
I would have thought that the wheel refurb firms would also be able to make a decent job, although they mainly deal with alloy "bling stuff" they must straighten some of those.
Most road cars that I deal with every day at work have one or two wheels that are not true and some are like a three penny piece !!

Ian Jemison in Bishopthorpe, near York, repairs virtually all the WRC teams' wheels. Although these are mainly aluminium and magnesium items I'm sure with his equipment he could repair steel wheels. He's worth a try.
