Montoya signs until end of 2004! Button?

http://www.gazzetta.it/statics/smoto...703288668.html

Sorry, its in Italian.
Gazzetta reports that Montoya has confirmed himself at Williams until the end of the 2004 season (right when everyone's contract at Ferrari expires ). 7 million Euros a season - a bargain, in my opinion!

With Ralf also having a contract until 2004, where does that leave Button?

Button will probably go to Jaguar if Renault (I mean Flavio) don't keep him.

I read a report that stated Button gets to choose if he wants to return to Williams in 2003 or not. Button is delusional as Frank would never agree to that type of contract!!!

With Michael Signed up for the end of 2004, and Monty signed as well till 04 with Williams. When Michael retires we could see (Hopefully!!) Monty in a Ferrari in 05!!Montoya would be 29 by then, same age as Hakkinen when he won his first Title, and Senna was only 28 when he won his first Title.

I think that Button actually reported that he had a cast-iron contract to drive a BMW powered car, not necessarily a Williams.... but time and places do seem to be running out for Jenson...

that would mean that Button's contract would be with BMW, not Williams.

Maybe Button for an ETCC BMW next year

I'd tip he'll be at Jaguar

Poor old Button. Screwed by Frank, and cursed to drive for Jag. I see another Fisichella in the making.

I cant believe Button would want to take a step back in his career and go to Jaguar. Is he really really blinded by the money

I think that Jenson would rather stay at Renault, he's even said that he'd take a pay cut to stay there, so i don't think he's blinded by money! As for wanting to take a step back, the decision won't be his to take, much the same as DC, he won't want to go to a team with a worse car than McLaren, but he won't have any choice!

Better for jense to take a step back to a team like Jag , than leave F1 altogther . As long he can dominate his team mate then he will stay on the wanted list of other teams no matter where the team is on the grid....this is probally what he will have to do.

Stranger things have happened but what if Jaguar actually gets its act together by next year? Nah, I'm being daft aren't I?

As ever, it's a bit like playing musical chairs as a kid.

Never enough seats for everyone to sit down and at the end of the round someone is always left standing up looking sad while the others carry on the game and fun!

I think Alex Wurz is the poster boy for the importance of keeping a race seat, no matter where it is. If you have the talent, it will show. Jensons rep is a good one, as long as he outperforms his teammate, he will be fine.
Any early word on the R4?

I don't know about that. If all the key people in Ferrari leave at the end of 2004, and Montoya joins them in 2005, he could end up as another Jean Alesi, e.g. joining a championship winning team just when they enter a slump.

Yeah that sounds like a good one, Yoong. Schu will make sure that when he leaves, Brawn & Byrne leave with him (unless Ferrari hires Halfie).

WOW.. if that can happen. Jee, I would love to see JPM & JB battle it out... For sure I hold Button above Halfie in all areas including talent & skill.

JR - "inside word" from where??

Not sure how anyone can come to any conclusions about Button in terms of skill, etc. based on what he's done so far. Button has been ok this year, and I think he is promising, but Ralf has won races.

Button's fairly young, so he could drift around waiting for Schumi junior or Montoya to retire... in about ten years time. Enjoy the wait.

Looked as if Buttons is not really wanted by Flavio as if he has his own ways, he would want both of his own managed drivers (Trulli and Alonso) in the 2003 line up. He's just being nice as to offer a paycut of 2 mil pounds if Buttons opted to stay...but still, hoping he would decline the offer.

I'd say that Button's position with Renault isn't that secure, go to Jaguar or Toyota then!

Toyota would be the pic if he can get in. I hate they way drivers sign long contracts it makes the silly season boring.
