R&S Mk.III with a roof?
It wasn't too successful because the turbo Toyotas and Nissans were too dominant; but an "evolution" model could have gone head to head with the other GTPs. I recall an IMSA broadcast way WAY back in the early '90s when the pit reporter or whoever it was talked about the Intrepid, and explained the electronic dashboard which came complete with a turbo boost gauge - the engine was a 6.5l Chevy, and not a turbo in sight... |

I don't believe an "evolution" was necessary, just some development. That car raced all of three races, correct? I also believe the Mk III was an Intrepid with a whole bunch of aero taken off. I'll keep my eye out for the Wayne Taylor interview on this car. He relates the story of how he almost lapped the entire field until he got to the other team car, running second, who defended until they wrecked each other. In short, the car ran better than the results showed. The year that was to be it's first full season was when the class was disbanded. The Bob Riley design was going to be the high downforce solution to beating Toyota and Nissan in the States, but it probably would have gotten killed in Europe.

Bit of a who's in terms of GM Motorsport with this car. Designed by R&S,BuiltbyPratt&Miller,KatechEngine.
Didn't Wayne Taylor have 6/7poles one year with this car? |

If I recall correctly, this is the car that Tommy Kendall crashed and messed up his legs so badly.
Post #1 for me! Good to be here. |

Yes that's right, Kendall crashed it - I'd forgotten about that already.

Welcome vs346, and a nice little website you have there!
There is an Intrepid that shows up for HSR Historic Sports Racing races, and hopefully that means I will see it along with the beloved 956 and 962's very soon down at Sebring. |

Last winter when I was still in Indy I went up to the shops of Jade Pig Racing in Michigan to photograph their Intrepids for a future piece. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get back to it as of yet. Gobs of downforce out of this car and its only vice might have been the normally aspirated powerplant.
And the Jade Pig guys took their cars over seas this year for the historic Group C races. So if you missed them this year, shame on you! |

But a good chassis indeed. |
