Rule changes for 2004?
F1 has become the dullest most boring race series over the last 5 years...I don't even bother to watch the highlights any more. At least this year it has been more interesting.
Why? Its up to the rule changes. So for 2004 I propose. Enforce rules on traction control and launch control and ban them altogether. Limit tyre widths to FIVE INCHES! Then you will see if any of the modern generation can live up to the great pre-war generation driving Mercedes and Auto Union! Drivers with real car control. |

I don't agree! F1 is the best series in the world we just had the fight for the WDC played out . **********

Fight?
What fight? I didn't see any fight. Just Michael Schumacher disappearing in the distance... |

I've got to agree with eclectic about TC & LC, i'd like to see drivers drive their cars but apart from that i thought they've got the rules pretty well spot on this year.

ASCII,
Marke Webber was referring to the whole season, i guess... So many different race winners and polesitters, Toyota and Bar leading a race, even Minardi on provisional pole; after last year monopoly... you can't deny all that just because the final result is not what you expected/hoped... |

Too bad Button had blown his engine, it would have been pretty special if he got it to the podium...
Or actually... no that wouldn't have been good for me, hehe! Heh... Ow... |

You reckon they will ever make a Jaguar last a race distance and not melt its Michelins in the process??
Webber has to run with more juice aboard thanks to the thirsty Cossie, and has some weirdo developments on the thing that sees him run the harder Michelin almost exclusively..... Then it comes to the wet, and the traction control is as stable as a cat on an icerink, and he fences it.... Very sad.... but having Webber in a competitive car has been fantastic for the championship, for the fans back here in Australia..... |

It was great to see an Aussie in the lead of a G.P., we've had to wait over twenty years for that.

spot on climb . we had 8 different winners. (I think ) 7 different pole sitters this has been a cracker season and you would be blind freddy not to see it. Just because your driver stuffed it last race doesn't make it a bad season . If you look at all the threads pre Indy everyone & everyone was saying how good this season was . remember a dry race(Indy) could have seen a whole different Suzuka !

I liked the points system, but it could be improved: just award 12 points to the winner.
Two points between winner and second place is not fair and does not reflect the huge difference in achievements: wining is clearly MUCH more than finishing second. I also liked the one-shot qually, but would scrap the parc ferme rule. Then we would have true qualifying back. |

One shot qualifying is destroyed by having to go out in race fuel. It would be far better if the drivers were in their lightest cars and going for it at high speed.
The points system should give 12 to the winner. The parc ferme rule should be scrapped. |

I don't like the points system, to much messyness
try this: average all the finishing places (a dnf = 20 no matter what) and the lowest wins. Simple enough, and rewards winning a lot. Thats theperson who should win right? the person who finishes the best |

A great fighting win by Michael, not a drive into the distance. |

Get rid of LC. More points for the win, the old qually format, slicks

Bring in a point for pole, fastest on friday should get a front row grid slot and most laps lead should also get a point. I realise this is straight out of the CART rulebook but when championships come down to single points here and there it will make friday and saturday have more importance.

I think a rule change thst should be brought in next year is to have all the teams on the same rubber.

Hmmmmm.........have you been watching the same series? For a sport that's supposedly "tired" and "dying" F1 does rather well don't you think. It's the best motorsport in the world by an absolute country mile IMO! People like Suzy Perry off Superbikes will try to tell you otherwise whilst their horribly uncompettitive and undersupported championship dies a horrible death amidst ludicrous and incomprehensible rule changes and half baked competitors. |

Boring? It's the most exciting season for many a year. Where did you get that from?
Mind you in fairness, I guess different people are bored by different things... Knowlesy, the last paragraph of your last post sounds a bit like a well-known fallen US racing series to me... |

Ah good! so at least my stimulating comments did raise some vehement response.
I have been following F1 for nearly 40 years and I still argue that the current F1 series is deadly dull, this year only seems better after the appalling tedium of 2002. OK lets have more discussion on narrower tyre widths? Can you remember the spectacle of the uncharismatic 'Our Noige' hauling his car around on opposite lock? Jimmy Clarke? Gilles Villeneuve? Now that was real exitement! I'm NOT saying that it was all better in my day, but there is hope that it will be much more exciting in future. Last edited by eclectic; 30 Sep 2003 at 08:29. |

But "Our Noige" had slicks didn't he? I agree Clarke was excellent.
Do you think that, say, the current 2003 season is worse than the 1995 season? Or 1999? |
