I think we could well see Briscoe in Champcar next year but I would be suprised if it is with RuSport or any other of the front running teams.
I wouldn't mind seeing Briscoe at the new team Gelles next year.

i wouldn't mind seeing him anywhere as long as it is in ChampCar and it is fairly competitive.

So many potential great additions, but I agree that it's vital to have at least 4-6 US drivers. Tracy, Ranger and Tagliani would probably be enough for Canada, but Hinchcliffe would be worth a chance anyway. Bremer, Briscoe, Carroll, Dalziel, Pagenaud, Jani would all be good.

I posted some time a go that Robbie Buhl was at the Road America Race, notibly interested in the DP 01 and with some D & R personal.

And as posted in the Indy Star :

Quote:
Dennis Reinbold said his one-car team is in better financial shape, but he is not ready to say it will return to the IRL, which it joined in 2000. Reinbold and partner Robbie Buhl are considering a move to the Champ Car World Series.

I really doubt D & R will come to Champ Car. I really think it is a way for them to get more money from TG. If they do come I will be the first to say I was wrong.

It could go either way. The new champcar chassis is quite the deal and D&R can still put their old clunker in the field at indy, seeing how bump day will be nonexistant. But i would agree the main idea is to squeeze out some tonybux.

All I can say is SWEET.

Quote:
The Minardi team is almost certain to enter Champ Cars next year with Paul Stoddart planning to make an announcement within the next 10 days. We understand that there are still three options available to the team, all of which will involve acquiring current teams. Stoddart is not giving anything away at the moment but says that it will probably be an Indianapolis-based team. Stoddart says that there are three drivers in the frame, all of them ex-Minardi F1.

Nor, for that matter, is Robert Doornbos who seems more and more likely to be sliding into a Scuderia Toro Rosso drive next year, alongside Tonio Liuzzi. If that happens Scott Speed is going to be looking for work although it is possible that Red Bull will help out its long-time protege by funding a ride in America, perhaps alongside Neel Jani at PKV Racing.

The Minardi name will thus be appearing in both GP2 and Champ Car as Giancarlo Minardi owns the right to use the name in association with an Italian company and Stoddart owns the right to use the name in relation to a British-based company.

I'll be dammed. If Stoddart enters Champ Car it may not increase the number of teams but it will eliminate a couple of pay drivers thus increasing the quality of the field. This is looking more and more interesting each day. Anyone have any ideas at who the three teams are? I would say Mi-Jack Conquest, Dale Coyne and Rocketsports. I hope it is Dale Coyne which is the weakest of the 3.

Stoddart in ChampCar can't wait to see that hopefully it is slightly more competitive than his stint in F1.

Where is AJ Allmendinger off to in '07?
I also heard a rumour that ex-F1 star Jos Verstappen will be off to race in America next year, but I can't remember if he was linked to IRL or CC?
2007 is shaping up as a fantastic year; new car/chassis, incresed entrants/spectator numbers and promise of better racing...BRING ON '07!!!

To expand on the pacwest bit.

1. Bruce McCaw(owner of pacwest) was not pleased at being one of the few teams that had to pay for engines while the others didn't
2. McCaw was fed up with the politics that were going on at the time
3. McCaw's assets had taken a hit post internet/tech industry bust and 9/11. I'm sure that was causing him some consternation at the time.

All that added up to McCaw becoming disinterested and he let the team wither away. Now five years later he still has a sizable fortune and has been active in vintage racing. The reason these rumors had popped up was because he had been spotted at several races this year. Also the old shop pacwest was in, is supposedly the current PKV shop and that McCaw had asked PKV to move because he wanted the shop back, presumably for racing. Other than that, I don't think there has been any other confirmation of a deal going on and I don't know how Tomas Enge of all people would be linked to pacwest.

Come across this on the Speed forums, the team that Stoddart could be looking to buy into would be D & R.

By no means a credible source but something to talk about at the least.

A shoe in is a big call.

There is a lot to come this winter so we will have to wait and see how the pieces fall.

Speed News/Robin Miller reported that Rusports has some business opportunities in Europe, and is looking to sell the team, potentially to Stoddart.

Quote:
Ex-Formula 1 team owner Paul Stoddart has made it clear he's interested in joining Champ Car in 2007 and could be buying Carl Russo's operation.

According to rumors, Russo has been offered a substantial sum of money for his company (Calix) and the new owner has no interest in motorsports. So RuSPORT, which won the Atlantic title with A.J. Allmendinger and scored a Champ Car win in only its second season, could be for sale.

If Stoddart purchased the Denver-based operation, he would then be re-united with Justin Wilson, who drove for his Minardi F1 team.

Russo has been unavailable for comment the past several days.
