Well I can think of three chassis that won Le Mans twice in the World Championship era, but I'm not sure any of them won a world championship, i.e. Ford GT-40 (68-69), Joest Porsche 956 (84-85) and Joest Porsche WSC (96-97),

Ok, unless I've misunderstood the question, I'll give this a go off the top of my head.
Ford GT40 won the Championship in 1968, and Le Mans in 1968 and '69 (with same chassis - 1075 I think). Porsche 917 won the championship in 1970 and 1971 (with help from 908/3s at Nurb and Targa) and Le Mans in the same years. Matra MS670 series of cars won the champ in 1973-74 and Le Mans '72-74. Porsche 936 victorious at Le Mans in 1976,'77 and 1981, and won the Championship in 1976. The Porsche 956/962 did it all loads of times! (6 Le Mans wins, excluding 1994 Dauer 962, 5 championships (?) and it wasn't bad in IMSA either!) Jaguar XJR9/12 won the 1988 championship and Le Mans in 1988 (9) and 1990 (12) Peugeot 905 won both the last two Group C World Championships in 1992 and 1993, as well as Le Mans in both years. And, of course, Audi R8, if you count the ALMS as the modern equivalent of the World Sportscar Championship. I think I need to go and lie down now! |

Intriguing.
Reminds me of the "teazers" I used to pose many moons ago. Don't know any better than those who have posted already though. |

Do you mean individual types of car, or individual chassis?

1075 was a Mk.1 run by the Gulf JWA squad. That chassis won in 1968 in the hands of Bianchi and Rodriguez and then again the following year with Ickx and Oliver driving.
As for other chassis' that have won Le Mans twice, that's quite tricky. The Joest 956 that one in 1984 and 1985 was the same car (don't know the chassis number) and would have helped win the Championship. The only other individual car that I can think of that has won Le Mans twice is the Joest WRC from 1996 and 1997, but I don't believe it won any championships, unless...umm. I believe it was based on an XJR-14 chassis which won the Championship in 1991, so maybe that is another one. Can't think of any more for now - are there any? Are we considering class winners as well? |

KRT wins!
The John Wyer GT40 chassis won the manufacturers title and le mans twice a Jaguar XJR-14 chassis (can't remember the number) won the world championship in the hands of Teo Fabi in 1991 then it was rebuilt as the Porsche WCR95 chassis 001. And won le mans in 1996 and 1997. The only cars to have done it. |

And here I am thinking i know something about sportscar history...Where the hell do y'all get such obscure information?...I'm blown away by such intimate knowledge of the sport, and i can only hope to one day be so well versed in the annols of motorsport history.

Don't worry, I'm sure everyone here knows something that noone else does. I get the feeling you describe a lot, especially when it comes to all the technical stuff. It's one of the great things about this site; if you've got a question, chances are SOMEONE will now the answer!
