World Series Sprintcars (updated after Round 13)
Ive been searching the forums to post a topic on the Sprinters and basically it looks like the Aussie Forum is the way to go (hey they possibly could be tin tops they have a roof afterall ?)
anyway i cant work out where to post it so if some other Mod knows where it should go then by all means move it ![]() Last Night I attended Wagga international raceway for Round 4 of the World Series Spintcar series , what an amazing event ![]() I havent been to the sprinters in a few years and forgot just how awesome these machines actually are. Brooke tatnell took out the night with a fantastic drive fending off American driver Shane Stewart. there of course were some big dumps for the night , lee nicholls took a heck of a lick down the back straight after getting a bump from Max Dumsney. Ian Thompsen also had a big flip all on his own in turn 4. But some drivers I was really impressed with were tatnell of course ![]() Mark Wells from WA did an awesome job and knows no fear at all Danny Reidy from NT cam all that way and one 2 heat races in fantastic fashion. and Robbie farr was up to his usually blinding style of driving. so tatnell won the night from , stewart with Mark wells in third and now the series heads on to Avalon raceway in victoria and i'd love to be going to that round as well ![]() current points standings are as follows. 1. Shane Stewart 2881 2. Robbie Farr 2766 3. Jason Johnson 2442 4. Brooke Tatnell 2406 5. Max Dumesny 2165 6. Darrell Hodges 2135 7. Mark Wells 1865 8. John Shore 1573 9. Mike Van Bremen 1433 10. Danny Reidy 1357 |

Thanks for starting the sprintcar topic and yes, perhaps we need to dedicate a Speedway page on the Forum. For N.Zed as well as Ozz.
I am in my 27th year at Western Springs, Auckland. (spectating) but like to hear about the Other tracks, esp. those that I can make a good excuse to go visit (in Australia) and who knows, there might be thousands of others that enjoy that feast of NON-CONTACT Speedway, as opposed to that crash and bash "not really racing, more like trying to stop anybody else racing stuff ' from the Stockcars. Pardon? Sorry? Did I tread on somebodies toes there? |

Round 1 at Archerfield was a tremendous nights entertainment. I spent the Feature race in the Performance Wholesale corporate box, and watching the battle between Shane Stewart and Darrel Hodges with the crowd atmosphere as well, all while trying to call the race, it was hard not to enjoy it so thoroughly.
We're having a ball with the Brisbane based Comp Cams series as well, with Andrew Scheuerle putting on a stunner last time out, and I just got back from Rockhampton after watching Darren Jensen clean up in a breathtaking nights racing. |

I'm impressed by what I saw at Heartland Raceway near Moama which has it's debut meeting in the form of a WSS round in mid January.

IM a regular speedway visitor here in Perth and I must say a BIG Mark Wells fan. Seeing this guy compete in the WSS this year is a credit to him. He basically have a very serious motor X accident a few years ago which left him away from the sport for over a year and nearly loosing his leg....He fought back and raced locally in nominated racers for the 2003 season. I believe he was on the verge of selling all his current equipment as he lost his drive for the sport......A call from Krikke Motor sport hase changed that. With no experience of the Eastern States tracks shows how good a talent he really is. Im sure most Sandgroper will be wishing him all the best for the series. Go WELLSY !!!!!!!!!!

as for Mark Wells , he was seriously on it the other night , his outside passes around turn 1 were increddible. he has a huge futre and all credit on the Krikke's for giving him a run ![]() |

Unfortunatly us Sydney speedway fans don't get the WSS anymore. And with Newcastle speedway gone, there are no WSS rounds within a reasonable driving distance.

Well the decision to dump 372s was PCRs decision and the chances of it getting through national were slim to none.
However you do get the Outlaws. And the $50k too right? |

Yup PCR get both and some great local racing as well, The reason they went to 410 was to run to the same specs as the US cars and enable the locals to compete, from what I have seen the 410 is not much more expensive to develop or run and a few running it say it is actually easier on parts. Time will tell but I hope it does not split the whol;e Sprintcar scene as it is Alive and well.

Is Warnambool the track with tarmac?
I'm hoping to get down to my track a few times this year (Kwinana Motorplex WA) see some sedans. Just had a look on the WSS site, no WA round ![]() |

No, Warrnambool's track is a clay/sand mix. It does get incredibly hard and abrasive at times. I ran my own Sprintcar team for some years, and I remember in 1999 one meeting when the track did it's 'turn to concrete' trick. We put on two new rear tyres before a fifteen lap race, and both were throwaways after it. The cars were leaving a blue trail of rubber smoke around the track and the place stank of burning rubber.

Apparently they are/have reprofiled the track at Premier this season.
From what I'm told it was still reasonably flat down low and steeper up high (banking wise) to give those who hugged the boards a quicker line around. From what I gather it will be one banked profile this season from top to bottom. |

They run sprintcars at the local speedway track here which is terracotta clay, and all the spectators get a good sand blasting and coating of bright orange dust, which actually makes the race hard to watch.I would like to see them run on a tarmac track.
The biggest crowds are still for the crash bang stockcars. |

yes Armco. They should put more water with it. (and the track). Mighty track at Tauranga though. Fast and furious.
Still cant see any sense in Stockcars though, I have tried and tried to be objective and to 'start fresh' in my thinking but I still cant see any sense in bashing each other off the track rather that racing to see who is the FASTEST. Beats me. (but I have only been a Speedway nut for about 27 years so maybe I am missing something eh?) Wheel to wheel at full tit, Thats what I like to see. Sprints, Midgets, T.Q's etc. Modifieds and Saloons, All good value (and at different tracks in Auckland) but Stockcars, ?? ![]() |

How big was the crowd at Wagga? I went last year, and thought they put on a good show, unfortunately, the single line around the track made it almost impossible to pass... The threat of inclement weather stopped me making the three hour drive.
Parramatta is sensational though - fast, wide open, big fields, and 410's make an unreal exhaust note (allowing that all Sprintcar exhaust notes these days are strangulated cats compared to 15 years ago). I'm planning on going to the 50k show both nights and at least one night of the Outlaws. The outlaws is expensive to attend, has no support events, but you won't see a better quality field outside of the US! |

the crowd at Wagga was fairly big , maybe not a record attendance but certainly it was almost impossible to get an ice cream
![]() the weather held off thankfully (3 drops during the A main was all we got) but all in all it was a pretty good night. But i must add any support classes that run with the sprinters do need a heck of a lot more work. |

I think a Donovan 410 is about $70,000. If you wanted 2 or 3 engines done, it may be cheaper to go to the USA, where the specialist engine shops are.

I heard Hodges was running well when but into the wall by a 'V' car. Daredevil Darrell has been giving the established guys a real hurry up and is making all but the very fastest of the Australian competitors look bad. He should have been part of WSS years ago.
I also note his protest from Round 4 has been upheld and the protest money returned, but however there will be no change to results or points. Still, the form of Hodges, Robbie Farr and Shane Stewart, obviously Queensland run teams is where its at. Al Woods has been very rapid too for a part time driver too I believe. How is Bracko going? Hard to get a feel for his results from this distance. Forza Queenslander!! |
