SOM - Mallory Park

It appears a good majority of the SOM grid is on this forum.... so have you got any predictions for the upcoming Mallory round? Who normally goes well here?

On the evidence of the last meeting I attended at Mallory I think whosoever survives Gerards Tsunami will win

Get the entries in NOW, let's avoid the last minute rush and the resulting changes to the program.

With 26 point scorers already, we look forward to over 20 entries.

My monies on the first over the line!

If you get your entry in early, you stand more chance of getting in the programme write-up!

Let's add Dawkins and Bates (who was testing this morning).

There must be some more?

That would already take us up to 13, which was about average last year.

I'm 'new' and so are Benn Simms. Trevor Cooper and Nick Hewitt.

John Esser gone (I've got his car). Who else? Steve St Clair now doing NW I think.

Phil Hart? Dan Fox? Maybe they'll enter yet..

I was at Mallory today (with a Zetec) and was surprised only Hewitt and Bates were testing FF1600s.

I have just entered (forgot!). Dan (Fox) isn't doing Mallory, Steve St Clair should be.

How did Bates compare to Hewitt's pace John?

Impressive stuff today, Hewitt - 48.3 (albeit with a tow from Morrow), Morrow - 48.6 (no tow). Caught one or possibly two other guys just dipping into the high 48's (48.9), but not sure who they were. The rest of the field in the mid 50's +. Hewitt & Morrow seem to be setting an impressive pace, but what do I know!.... is this a good pace for FF1600 @ Mallory?! Monday should be a good race!

48.3 is very quick. Jamie Morrow sounds quick and could well upset the local applecart. If Daly doesn't get some decent silverware soon, I think he's gonna cry!

The entry these days in the SoM is mega-quality. Five years ago you could lap in 51s and finish 15th out of 25. On Monday lapping into the high 49s (my sort of pace) will probably get you about 16th out of 20. I might have to cry as well.

The lap record is 47.7 (?) set in 92 with shaved Dunlops and works Quicksilver motors imported from the states, so the field these days relly is very competitive.

How many FF1600s were there today Muz?

Difficult to say, because I dont think everyone was out in every session, but between 8-10. 47.7 with works engines in 92 - that makes Hewitt's time even more impressive!

Hmm...

Having said that, there was quite a strong head wind coming aross the back straight, so perhaps a late 47 isnt totally unbelievable. It would probably need a tow down one if not both straights.

It does sound quick, but he's a pretty straight guy I think - although doubtless ambitious, keen and competitive.

Funny, how half the FF1600s go round quicker than quite a few of the ARP F3s.

Yes, it was funny watching the pair of them get over taken by 2 ARP F3's and a Jedi down the main straight and then the next lap the 2 F3's and Jedi were overtaking them again down the main straight!! .....if you know what I mean!

Muz - yesterday was Jamie's first time on track since his Formula Renault test with Manor just before Xmas, so he was very happy with 48.6 and feels there's more to come!!

The Infiniti guys will be making a few minor adjustments to the car over the weekend, which should give him another couple of tenths. Fingers crossed!!

Jamie's always seems to go well at Mallory and has had 2 consecutive ZIP wins there on the last 2 Easter bank holidays, so he's really looking forward to Monday.

That said local specialist Nick Hewitt must start favourite, though Jamie's determined to give him a run for his money. Should be an exciting race.

I think there will be a few more cars in the mix as well - absolute pace isn't necessarily the be and end all so expect Wills, Daly, Dawkins, Ames, Kestenbaum and Bates to up there as well. Should be fantastic!

Nice to see No 4 back posting with some positive news ! best of luck to Jamie, I'm gutted (sort of) to be racing myself that weekend or I'd certainly come and watch as this looks to be a superb round. I'm putting my money on Daly, really its tight at the front and hes due - thats the only reason.

Darcym - thanks for that, great to see Jamie back racing! I think Ian and yourself are right about how tight it will be - didn't mean to infer it will be a 2 horse race - perm any one from 7/8!! Good luck with your own race.
