Gearing for Oulton
Hi,
I'm racing my historic FF with the HSCC at Oulton bank holiday weekend, and am trying to select the best ratios. An old chart I have from PDS recommends a short set similar to Cadwell (i.e. 113mph flat out). Oulton is long lap, but is it really no quicker than that? I have a 4th gear of 118mph and wondered if that might be more sensible. Any recommendations out there ? cheers |

Hi FFman
my current ff1600 runs a 10/31 diff so I guess there's no point telling you what I run at the moment as this will only confuse you! However, my previous car ran a 9/31 diff and as far as I can remember I used to run: 14/36, 19/31, 22/29, 24/26 hope this helps. |

I'm similar - 14/36, 19/32 (it's what I've got) 21/29 and 24/26.

thanks guys. I run an 8/31 diff so i work with top speeds at either 6500 or 7000. By my calculations you have 114mph at 6500 which is about the same as cadwell.
In case you're interested I have rewritten the Hewland DOS gear program in a windows form, and its currently undergoing testing. If anyone is interested in using it, please PM me with an personal email address and I'll send you the 2.1mb zip file. |

FFMan, as a rough guide gearing for Cadwell and Oulton will be about the same, dont forget that swift and mikem run on ACB10 you will be on the taller ACB9, good luck at the Gold Cup!
