Missing British Sprint Championship Results

Well here goes! The following is a comprehensive list of the MISSING British Sprint Championship Rounds. I have listed the Date, Venue and Round Number. I anyone can help with a fill in the blanks exercise it would be much appreciated.

02/05/70 Greenham Common - Rd 2
24/05/70 Woodvale - Rd 3
28/06/70 Cadwell Park - Rd 5
02/08/70 Thruxton - Rd 6
20/09/70 Curborough - Rd 8
11/10/70 Moreton-in-Marsh - Rd 9
??/10/70 Fairford - Rd 10
09/05/71 Santa Pod - Rd 3
15/04/73 Curborough - Rd 2
30/06/74 Duxford - Rd 6
24/08/74 Cadwell Park - Rd 7
23/05/75 Longridge - Rd 1
26/05/75 Bassingbourne - Rd 5
08/06/75 Curborough - Rd 6
07/09/75 Wroughton - Rd 7
17/04/77 Upwood - Rd 4
10/09/77 Brighton - Rd 12
01/10/77 Weston - Rd 14
16/07/78 Blackpool - Rd 7
02/09/78 Oulton Park - Rd 10
14/05/83 Lydden Hill - Rd 2

If you have a qick flip onto www.britishsprint.org you will be able to see the extent of the problem. The parlous state of our 1970 records is most distressing as this was the inaugural year of the championship.

Thanks

Chris Townsend should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Steve

1970 RAC Sprint Championship see MN 14.1.71 p. 19
Will copy for you early June if you like [next time I can get to NPL]
Has points summary and winners of some rounds
Cadwell: 1: Burt [M2A]; 2: Harrison T70; 3: Pycroft BRM P126
Curborough: 1: Rose [M10A]
Moreton: 1: Rose 2: Pycroft
Fairford: 1: Williamson [M10A]; 2: Good [M10B] 3: Rose

Best 6 of 10 rounds counted. Only 21 drivers entered for the championship and 6 never competed. [Williamson and Good weren't registered for example]

do you need final points?

Chris

Chris, thanks for the offer but I do have the issue in question. It has allowed some 'back filling' of positions but as the points are not broken down as to when and where they were scored it doesn't solve all the riddles.

The results of the 24/08/74 Cadwell Park - Rd 7 have now been fixed thanks to a chance encounter at Colerne sprint! I have put out many requests for data but am still very frustrated especially at the lack of detail for the championship's inaugural year - 1970.

Any and all information on these events is still required.

November 2005 Update

The following is a comprehensive up to date list of the British Sprint Championship Rounds where the results are far from complete. I have listed the Date, Venue and Round Number. If anyone can help with a fill in the blanks exercise it would be much appreciated.

02/05/70 Greenham Common - Rd 2
24/05/70 Woodvale - Rd 3
28/06/70 Cadwell Park - Rd 5
02/08/70 Thruxton - Rd 6
20/09/70 Curborough - Rd 8
11/10/70 Moreton-in-Marsh - Rd 9
??/10/70 Fairford - Rd 10
09/05/71 Santa Pod - Rd 3
30/06/74 Duxford - Rd 6
23/05/75 Longridge - Rd 1
26/05/75 Bassingbourne - Rd 5
08/06/75 Curborough - Rd 6
07/09/75 Wroughton - Rd 7
17/04/77 Upwood - Rd 4
16/07/78 Blackpool - Rd 7
02/09/78 Oulton Park - Rd 10
14/05/83 Lydden Hill - Rd 2

Some of the problems are simply a missing time for one competitor so have a quick flip onto www.britishsprint.org where you will be able to see for yourselves the extent of the problem.

The parlous state of our 1970 records is still the most distressing aspect of the excersise and is particularly galling as this was the inaugural year of the championship.

Lets hope someone out there can help!

Thanks

Steve

Am I right to assume that you have access to all the Autosport and Motoring News you need? Are you asking people to check if they have results sheets from the events in question?

Correcto mundo, plenty on Motoring News and Autosports thanks.

However if anyone does have results that would be perfect.

Still looking

We are still looking for help in sorting out results!

Thanks to everyone so far who has helped in identifying the Chassis Numbers of the cars that took part.

The search continues however we still are turning up the odd chassis number like Maurice Ogier's BT23!

As before thanks to everyone who has helped and please, please keep looking!
