Everybody is talking up who is going to win the Touring Car format, which picks itself really given the number of entrants and the fact that Pug have not really tested in anger compared to Vauxhall.
The real question of the day is what will be the top three positions in the Production format? My guess: 1. Simon Harrison 2. Matt Kelly 3. Roger Moen (or Toni R) With a possibility of a GR Focus getting closer this year. What does everybody else think? It should be pretty exciting. |

I am sure that the Focus and its drivers will go really well this year, just not sure if the drivers will be experienced enough in their first year of BTCC.

I agree that Matgt Kelly eill be up there-he had the oldest car in the field last year and yet still finished second! He's a very under-rated driver-However, i think Moen will win the BTCP, with Howell, Kelly, Harrison etc. up there.

Is it the 4-door Focus(one with a boot, like Orion version of Escort) being raced this year?

GR have built a 4 door car but have decided to open the campaign with the 3 door. You may well see the 4 door after the season has got underway.
All those Howell doubters, lets wait and see. He has been racing since he was 7 years old so I don't think lack of experience will be a problem. A step up I hear you say, well that's what they said about his friend Jenson and look what he did. At Oulton Park last year he managed a 3rd and 4th after less than 40 laps in the car. Foolsgold - twice in this thread you hint at GR and Howell being a challenger for the championship, yet in the thread on Rookie of the year you say that any suggestion that Howell could win is "laughable". Well, we will see who is laughing at 5pm on 7th October. |

Well I can tell you it won't be you or Gareth Howell that will be laughing! Brands Hatch 15th/16th April.....let the battle commence! |

Whatever happens we WILL be laughing
As I said, lets wait and see. Gareth will do his talking on the track and on his own Forum. By the way, you want to tell him yourself, he will be hosting a live chat room on his site on Thursday 15th March at 20:00 after he has tested his new 2001 spec Focus at Donington.

You are obviously very protective of Gareth or you are Gareth, it's all a bit of fun, don't take it seriously. I really wish him every success next year and I think he will run pretty well in a few races and maybe Gareth will be laughing next October, but something tells me that he won't and tell you why I know a little later...... |

I don't think anyone "knows" what will happen or has the result already been pre-determined? You can make a guess, an educated one at best, and you can predict. There are too many indeterminables I am afraid. Who knows what impact the five engine rules will have? You will use up 3 with routine servicing, so that could change turn the championship upside down. Blow an engine in qualifying and you start from the back of the sprint and may not even start the feature. You may guess, you may think you know how it will pan out, but you do not know.
Anyway, read your PM. |
