Has da Matta gone too?
On autosport.com, there's an "Ask Nigel Roebuck" section every Wednesday. This time, someone asked his opinion about Bruno Junqueira. And in the middle of Roebuck's answer was this:
"Overall, Junqueira has done a very good job for Ganassi these last couple of seasons, but there's been no sign of his dominating CART, as Montoya instantly did. That said, yes, I suppose it is surprising that Toyota have not chosen to give him an F1 test, as with da Matta (who has now signed for 2003, I understand) and Castroneves." Roebuck doesn't tend to get much wrong when it comes to F1, so what do you think? Has Cristiano finally decided to sign for Toyota after all? (Apologies to Liz for this not being a happy smiley post, but it seemed worth posting.) |

This is really a no-brainer.
If you were CdM and realized you'd have the best chance at prosperity by signing a Toyota contract would you go right ahead and sign up to a ForMoola One now OR wait 'til next year and have to run a 'yota in f-inheitor? |

I'll wait for the official announcement, thanks.

I don't believe it yet. I'll wait for an announcement from Toyota. Cristiano has said he's been in talks but nothing has been signed and he was committed to CART for the near future.

I don't know if going to F1 is really a bad thing for Cart... I thin Villeneuve and Montoya have done well to raise the profile of Cart, and I assume Da Matta would do the same. Also, it would open up another seat to be filled by....(insert speculation). So it's not necessarily a bad thing...maybe a good thing!

Villenueve may just find himself in the situation of raising the profile again. And as for daMatta to F1, we're just gonna have to wait and see. Just like everything else this Silly Season. There are several guys testing for Toyota...

Crash.net reports Da Matta going to Germany for a seat fitting for another test and speculates that the 2nd Toyota seat is down to him, Castroneves and Massa

Castroneves for an F1 seat????
He was just beaten in an all-oval series!!! He's probably already forgotten how to turn right. |

I think Helio was invited at the behest (pressure) of his boss, who promised him he'd try to get him into F1 and forgot that F1 doesn't race on ovals and Bernie hardly ever turns up at Kansas City or in New Hampshire or wherever those people race. IMO it's a one-off for him. And with all the "loaner" drivers in F1 already it seems as if Toyota could borrow Massa or Webber or Wurz or somebody to develop the car further before they put a novice into the big team.
