WSR take MG's to Germany

WSR TAKE MG'S TO GERMANY

WSR today announced that newly-crowned BTCC Independent Champion, Anthony Reid, will contest the final rounds of the German Production Car Championship (DPM) at Oschersleben on 10 October in his WSR MG ZS.

Joining Reid will be Swiss driver Matthias Schläppi (22) who currently competes in the German Renault Clio Cup.

WSR are contesting this event in association with Swiss team, Maurer Motorsport, who are investigating the possibilities of running MG's in the 2005 DPM.

Reid commented:-

"I'm really looking forward to this event. I've never raced at Oscherleben previously but it looks a very good circuit. We've been competitive at most British tracks this year, so hopefully we can carry on this form in Germany."

WSR principal Dick Bennetts commented:-

"An ETCC car has been competitive in the BTCC this year, so it'll be interesting to compare the performance of the BTC spec MG to the German Super 2000 spec cars. Although we'll be carrying extra ballast, we're confident of putting on a competitive showing and flying the flag for MG."

"The last time WSR raced in Germany was with Mika Hakkinen in 1990! We contested the last round of the German F3 championship at Hockenheim and Mika took pole, the race win and fastest lap. The guy who came second and won the German Championship that year was somebody called Michael Schumacher."

Support for WSR and Maurer Motorsport will come from MG Rover Germany, MG Rover Switzerland and courier company GO!

Do any of our European/German members have any links or information on this championship? It's suddenly just shot up my level of interest scale!

Sounds very interesting, great that the cars will get another race, I do hope WSR can get a package together for 2005!

It'll be on Astra channel DSF at 14:15pm UK time on Sunday. One of those few events that are on at a normal time the rest of this year!

Official website is http://www.berutop10.de/

Be good to see those MG's beat the BMW's if poss...they won't see Reid coming!

(Seems there will be Audi A4's there too...so finally, the DPM gets some variety from it's two make world - hey, even the current form BTCC started with two makes I guess [ironically it was MG who were the third to join in then])

If you can, then I've been doing it the hard way so far!

Sorry - don't think so. You need one of those ol' analogue things still - which I find quite handy for:

F1 Full qualifying on RTL - and break fills

F1 Full Practive coverage when really bored on n-TV

DSF for German DPM

Also would have worked out for the Chinese DTM race if it hadn't been delayed.

Euro-Eurosport, for the stuff British Eurosport doesn't bother with.

Go find a skip now!

Even this Mathias Schlappi guy looks quite good. To be 7 tenths off the pace in a relatively unfamiliar car (he tested it in the UK) is not too bad.

Let's hope for an MG win!

Ah excellent, great to see Reid and MG back up there at the top. Intresting to note too that Reid's time would have put him 17th on the ETCC grid at Orscherlsaben, just ahead of Carl Rosenblad.

Aren't the BTCC Dunlops on average 1 second slower than the ETCC Michelins ?

I see from the series website the MG's back with green stripes...Has anyone got some links to more pictures ?

I guess MG Rover Germany and MG Rover Switzerland can afford them.

Reidy wins both races!

Would be quite rude for another series team to come over and show your guys what's what

The man's star lets hope that MG stay in the BTCC next year, because I reckon that he is in with a good shot of the championship. But if they don't stay then and if then someone should sign him NOW......

Maybe this is the way the BTCC will have to look at resolving the 'uncompetitive' Super-2000 problem - with BMW & Honda cars withdrawing.

Instead of allowing the ETCC spec cars to run light - make the BTC-spec cars run heavier.
