The RAC comprehensive on line only price for my car (6 year old Jag) was £42.40

rang up and spoke to a lady she reduced that to £41 and then said about a free french breathalizer kit I then told her that law had been dropped so they were not much use, so she then dropped the price by a further £5 as I was not getting the kit.

be careful with the rac, you need to check your terms and conditions very carefully.

their standard cover with euro breakdown doesn't include cars over 10 years old unless you pay an extra premium, and minibuses aren't covered at all for example. iirc the bolt-on cover is 6 years unless they've changed it, so make sure your cars birthday is the other side of le mans obviously it's no trouble if your car is only a baby, but for those running cars of a more vintage variety they're going to be fussy.

the people at the call centres tell you a different story each time, so don't rely on what they say to you to be gospel.

They take your registration number and quote back the car details and age so as long as the quote is accepted and the money taken you are covered.

that's good to know for the specific vehicle cover, but it's certainly not the case with the policies that cover people rather than vehicles.

they're very crafty about that, particularly if you're an existing customer.
