Archie Scott Brown - 50 years today.
You have probably seen these works that I painted before. On May 18th 1958 the great Archie Scott Brown fought his last battle. He had battled all of his life against his severe disabilities, which would have prevented most in his condition from even sitting in a racing car! But Archie was different. Incredible skill and determination, a true legend who's short 7-year racing career inspired scores of 1950s schoolboys to take up racing themselves when the chance arose.
At his local circuit Snetterton in 1957. 'The Remarkable Archie Scott Brown' Spa-Francorchamps, 50 years ago today. Leading the similar Lister of Masten Gregory before Archie's crash later in the lap ( where the F1 pits are now). He died in hospital that evening, only 31 years old. 'Archie's Last Battle' The HSCC Snetterton 3-hour meeting includes a tribute to Archie with a parade of Listers. Brian Lister & Jack Sears will be there. Raise a glass to Archie today. |
