Alex Yoong Signed for Enduro's - Car #48

After a successful test yesterday, Alex Yoong has been signed along with McIntyre to drive the #48 WPS Falcon in the upcoming V8 Supercar Enduro's.

Its going to be a hard slog in a very tough series, but Congratulations Alex, and good luck towards getting a full time drive (in a Falcon) next season.

Well done to Mr Yoong and his manager for getting the deal across the line.

The extra mileage at QR will probably help Mr Yoong's Konica entry at that round of the series.

The driver is more of an influence on carspeed here, unlike Eastern Creek, where if you had a slow engine, the car would be outpaced fairly easily.

An encouraging first race in the Konica round, Alex was up to 7th place (and had set the 10th fastest lap of the race) when the gearbox decided it liked sticking in gear, and the car was pitbound.

The car made it out to finish the race (and be 3rd in the reverse grid race) but its not certain if the problem is permanently resolved.

I think Alex will do OK. Let's look at a few facts; he drove for most of a year in Formula One without killing himself or anyone else. He can't therefore be THAT bad - and Stoddart will have had other pay drivers available, so he'd have had a choice.

Alex had the misfortune to have Mark Webber as his team mate. MW has made all his team mates (with the possible exception of Berndt Schneider) look like plonkers. And he might well have been running at a set pace at MB, so that comparison may not be valid.

And then there's the speed Alex has shown in a pretty ordinary car. Provided WPS have the wherewithall, he could do OK for them at the long races.
